A Stupid Question..

Hey people,

I applied Early Decision II to Colgate and have been told that the admission decision letters will be sent out by this Friday. I know that they will get to the American applicants within 2 days, but how long will it take for them to arrive to me? (I am an international applicant).
Colgate doesn't email admission decisions; they only mail them. Is there any chance that they will tell me their decision if I call / inquire via email on Monday (when the American applicants will have already received their decisions)?

I know that this is stupid, but I really love Colgate and I am SO curious to know whether I got in..

Not all students in the US will receive them within 2 days; it can actually be a few days longer depending on location. I know it takes at least 5 business days for USPS mail to reach Seattle from Colgate, though it seems that recently they occasionally send acceptances FedEx. It will naturally take longer for international students, and will vary significantly by country. Have you received anything else from Colgate that’s postmarked? That will give you some idea.

Please don’t call the office asking for your decision unless a reasonable time has passed and you still have not received your decision by mail. Unless it’s been long enough that it’s clear your decision was lost in the mail, they can’t tell you, and they’re going to be inundated with everyone else calling asking the same thing all day every day until April. I know waiting sucks - I’m waiting to hear back from grad school now and they won’t even tell you when they’ll tell you - but at this point there’s nothing you can do.

Thanks for your response!
I learned that they FedEx the letters.
You think there’s any way I could get a hold of the tracking number / reference number / otherwise track it?

They do not provide tracking numbers - it would be a logistical nightmare. Unfortunately you’re just going to have to wait, as hard as it is!

I decided to search this site for information on Colgate’s FedEx and other mailings from 2010 to see how applicants fared in the waiting game. One poster said his package from Colgate to somewhere in China took 3 calendar days which is less time than some of the regular post within the US. Within just a few days it seems that everyone heard his or her news since the postings on the question stopped.

In any case, and as Lydia08 offers, it won’t be long until you too receive your notifications.

Best of luck with your efforts and continued success in college!

Thank you so much for the kind regards!
Is it possible that they only FedEx acceptance letters (but regular air mail denials / deferrals)?

Really, try to relax. Colgate isn’t that kind of university that would let acceptees know ASAP, they’ll let everyone know at the same time if they can. Just be patience! Have fun this weekend!

I got my decision via email last year, so i don’t know what the policy is this year, but I’ve still got my eyes glued to my mail box…
