A Thread of Hope!

For some...?

By the way, no pun intended :D

Anyway, I thought you SCEA'ers might be interested in the following results threads:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/123269-official-stanford-ea-2010-thread.html

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/269078-official-2011-scea-decisions.html

From browsing these two links, I've noticed a few things. For one, the test scores for the accepted are all over the place. Perhaps CC'ers overemphasize the importance of an extremely high SAT score. Also, it seems that a lot of CA applicants had a more difficult time getting in. A lot of the admitted students were from out-of-state, and they seemed to have lesser stats, in general (though I can't conclude that they didn't have something else going for them). Also, a few individuals claimed that "a demonstration of intellectual curiosity" is what got them in. Hmm...

Anyway, just wanted to share this with you guys, in case you couldn't find it yourselves. (I've discovered that the CC Google Search has been a lot more effective in finding older threads.)

I am reading it right that last year about half the people who gave their result on CC got in SCEA? That seems pretty high for everyone to be so pessimistic.

Well, I wouldn't read into the NUMBER of accepted applicants, because there's a significant misrepresentation in that usually those CC'ers with good results will post more often than those with less desirable ones.

But, my point is that there were many applicants, who weren't your seemingly "superstar" students, that got in. So, everyone, don't give up hope!

The recurring theme among acceptances seems to be a pursuit of knowledge that extends beyond the classroom... research, internships, science teams, etc. That's probably why students with 2200's were sometimes favored over students with 2300's.
