wow awesome list! this is extremely helpful! Thanks!

I don't know if this has been pointed out, but those Bed Bath and Beyond links don't work...

Hey everyone! This is a great thread--a lot of things I wish I had known as a freshman! I'd like to give a bit of advice to incoming freshmen, too...one of the hardest parts of starting as a freshman is not knowing what to do & where to go in your new college town.

I thought you all might be interested in a site that a fellow Vandy student just started. It's an online travel guide focusing on college towns--it discusses where the students go, fun campus events, etc...It's written by college students, unlike most travel guides geared toward middle-aged people and families. Not only is it good when planning road trips and visiting colleges, but it'd be really helpful in learning where to go the first couple of months on your own campus!

The site just opened to the public last week, and I don't think I'm allowed to actually post the URL because of CC regulations, but message me if you want more info! I can tell you the URL and give you the exclusive code for full access to the site. :)

def. earplugs

I know this thread originated a few years back, but it's still relevent.

Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Ron

This list was very helpful!
We are definite list planners in my family, and found this to be a big help! Especially when my daughter will be going from Ohio to NYC. Buying as much as we can here will eliminate the expensive stuff in NYC!
THANKS

Do we really have to bring all that stuff? I might have to borrow a U-HAUL truck, haha!

i actually did use a uhaul truck to move into college.
and i am prepared for EVERYTHING.
the downside is that everyone comes to me when they want to borrow stuff. ironing board, safety pins, cooking pans, scissors, tissue paper, toaster, whatever.

and...don't forget your snowboard! :)

great thread. thanks everyone!

comfort food

Wow, this is a crazy long list. I don't think I'll be bringing all of that stuff, but it's definitely reminded me of things I would've never thought of.

So when I was getting ready to go to college just this past September, I was soo confused about what to bring. This article actually explains what you need really well- you should check it out-

Includes a list of Dont-You-Dare-Put-That-In-Your-Suitcase!! haha

Check it out!

This is a great list. I always make lists and there is no doubt I will be going crazy trying to buy everything this summer. This will definitely help me not to forget anything.

So is it not recommended to bring a large tv (32inch LCD) and a PS3 to college? I fear that it could be stolen, but it's going to get boring if I don't bring it. (it's really cold and snowy where I'll be going).

I have heard stories for and against bringing expensive items to school, so I'm not really sure at this point what to do.

^^ I don’t think you’ll have room for it.

frank01-just remember that dorm space is very limited. also, don’t bring anything you wouldn’t want to potentially have to carry up and down stairs during movein/moveout.

all im gonna say is get a mac…i had a dell from freshman to sophomore year and i was very close to just dropping it out my fifth floor window.

now, if you’re an engineer or something like that i can understand the need for a PC. but otherwise, get a mac. i would marry mine if i could, im in love

I’m worrying about this same thing too! I have to drive down to North Carolina with my parents, which is about an 11 hour drive, and i don’t want to have to forget anything and live without it for several months until i go back home to visit. a good article that i found that gives the basics of what you need is here :[Veritas Tutors - Tips and Articles](http://www.veritutors.com/index.php?page=tips-and-articles) . you should check it out.

haha, i just realized that someone else found the same article that im posting. must be pretty popular then.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting stuff to college?
