Stuff I should bring to college

I know of all the obvious stuff (bedding, computer, toiletries) but what are some things that people wouldn't think of off the top of their head when their making the list of stuff to buy? I want to start buying some stuff now so I won't be overwhelmed with a huge list (and a huge bill) when July and August come.
Also, did anyone have any nifty ways they saved money on buying stuff? Thanks for the help!

Bring an air matress and sleeping bag if you have them so when a friend is visitng you they can sleep comfortably on the floor, or if you go visit somebody you can sleep comfortably on the floor. Good speakers, strobe light/fog machine/lasers for dance parties, a bike, snack pack pudding (best desert ever), vitamin c supplements.

Old school video game systems.

there's some good ideas there

I keep a variety of teas, cocoa, and a kettle in my room. It's nice to have hot drinks when I'm studying, or after a long day. The tea smells nice, too.

True. Food that can be prepared with hot water is great. Especially if it's sweet.. :-)

Stick-on wall hooks. I also love my wire-less vacuum cleaner and storage drawers.

Ethernet cord, printer and extra printer cartridges, extra headphones, surge protector with multiple outlets, first aid kit filled with everything from cold medicines to antibiotic cream and bandaids and even one of those "squeeze to activate" disposable icepacks, one or two extra pillows because your bed will also be used as a couch, a credit card, your medical insurance card, a debit card, one extra set of sheets, a fan (it always seems that the week or two after moving in is always hot) and a desk lamp (non-halogen) with a cord long enough to reach an outlet.

Make sure the sheets and towels have been washed a few times before you bring them so they soften and most of the excess color washes out (you don't want the excess color to ruin a load of your wash when your away at school).

Before you buy any extension cords, surge protectors, etc., make sure you look up your school's fire safety policy on those sort of things in the dorms. They are usually extremely specific, and they tend to take violations of policy very seriously - at least, for fire safety checks.

I'd recommend a desk lamp, a floor lamp, a set of speakers for your laptop, tissues, Brita water filter, and a flash drive.
