A warning to all new college students about insurance confusion

I will be completing the waiver for D because I really can’t afford the college policy. D’s father is not contributing to any college costs and I pay him monthly to keep her on his insurance policy. While Kaiser doesn’t have providers in the state where she will attend college, they do say they provide emergency care and urgent care coverage. D will have to get routine care while home on visits and use the student health service as needed. I hope that will work out as it’s the best I can do.

@elena13 For both my kids schools (both entering freshman) we had to prove (via a letter from our provider) that our health insurance provides “in-network access” in the college’s location, “not just emergency care”. Waivers were denied initially until we were able to upload those official letters.

I hope you are successful with your waiver, but I don’t think your D’s plan would allow a waiver in our cases.
It would probably be helpful to others if you come back and report your result. Good luck.
