I'm a bit confused about submitting the AMCAS application. I'm taking my MCAT on June 17, and scores will be released about July 20.

When should I submit the AMCAS application? I want the application to be sent to medical schools as soon as my MCAT scores are released. Should I aim to submit the application for verification in early June? I'm not sure how long it will take AMCAS to go through my transcripts.

In addition, do the letters of recommendation need to be sent to AMCAS before I submit?

Thanks for the help!

Submit it as soon as you can - the first day it opens if possible. That way you’ll be verified by the time your MCAT scores come out and the application will be sent immediately after that.

Realistically, verification doesn’t take that long as long as you submit within the first 3-4 weeks, but earlier is always better.

Submit the application as soon as you can
Submit your transcripts as as soon as you can
Submit your LORs as soon as you can
Submit to 1-2 schools up front just to go on the system, perhaps your state schools, then you can add others when you know your stats
verification can easily take 2-3-4 weeks depending on the date you submit and the date all those forms arrive.

While you are awaiting your MCAT score, be following up to make sure transcripts and LORs arrive. We used interfolio for both so that they could go from Interfolio to schools that wanted them directly or to TX & AAMCAS both, this allowed us to get the transcripts from 4 schools (1 abroad, 2 CC summer school classes & the main uni) all coordinated and checked off the list.

LORs may surprise you, ask NOW, get extras. Some one may let you down
