Eek - sorry for my horrible social faux paux - apologies to Oklahoma!

and is USC for So. California or South Carolina??

on here USC always means university of southern california, and I don't think U. South Carolina is mentioned enough in real life or on cc for it to be a big issue.

On the OSU issue, I've called it OSU and had many people think I was talking about either Oregon or Ohklahoma, so I now just call it ohio state

No faux pas ohio, it's a regional thang. Kind of like UT being Tennessee or Texas.

Actually, I was reading a thread where they were talking about UNC- Chapel Hill vs Emory or something related thereto that they kept mentioning USC. I was baffled until I realized (or they spelled out) that they were referring to U of South Carolina. I suppose it is a regional thing, as I was reading about the Duke/UNC/ Davison/Emory stuff, as I am in the SE

Oh,carolyn-that is funny.Thanks for the laugh.

I'm sure it comes up, I was saying in what I've encountered, there has never been any confusion (btw I live in Ohio).

Princeton is sometimes referred to as pton or p-ton. Dartmouth as dart, ohio state as tOSU (the ohio state university), KU is Kansas U., but it can be Kentucky or any other K-state (if any other's exist)

Good thing that U of Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, Auburn, etc don't get talked about too much. I'd be totally lost.... AU? UofA? UAB? Also, I was in college in the '70's. Unfortunately, when we abbreviated our college name, (Vassar - VC) people thought we were referring to the VietCong!! :eek:

There was a very funny thread not too long ago where people were trying to see if they could decipher long abbreviations. It was pretty funny, and clever, but I haven't found it yet.. Stay tuned...

TOEFL - test of english as a foreign language

My favorite college one (not that anyone on CC would ever talk about this school!): IUPUI a/k/a oo-eey, poo-eey, Indiana University-Purdue University - Indianapolis.

OP - original post(er)

OT = off topic

And most important: here's the link to the smilies :D
