Hi,

I'm a homeschooled international student applying to Amherst this autumn, and on the section of the Amherst site regarding homeschoolers, it says:

"We will require ATB (Ability to Benefit) documentation for those offered financial aid from the college."

This documentation hasn't been mentioned on any of the other college sites. What exactly is it? Do all colleges require it for homeschoolers - and how do I get it?

Thanks.

ATB (Ability to Benefit) type this into google and you will find the answer

I am homeschooled as well. Do you go through an online school or something? If you do you might want to try them.

I Googled it, but couldn’t find anything on the documentation, only the test, which most colleges no longer seem to require.

And I’m afraid I don’t go to an online school or anything.

You should contact each college/university that you plan to apply to and ask them what specific information they will need from you in order to document your ATB. Each institution sets its own requirements for this, and the documentation required may be somewhat different for each place.

Community colleges often use the ASSET exams which they administer on their own campuses. It is possible that your SAT/ACT/TOEFL exams will be sufficient for some colleges/universities. I have no idea what Amherst might require.
