About class rank and application....

How is class rank looked at?
My school competes for class rank until the end of senior year, so it is impossible to know if you are in the top 10% or top 25% until the year end of senior year.

Do college just get the information when it is sent or what?
This question especially applies to EA

Class rank, at my school at least, is on the transcript. Also your counselor will report it in the college application. Class rank itself is flawed, so college admissions deans look at your GPA and course difficulty level in order to get a better sense of how you did.

You'll have to send a transcript when you apply, so the "class rank" they're looking at is the one you have at the time of sending. Surely your school does periodic recalculation of the rankings, I hope?

And of course later you'd have to send your Mid-year Report and then your final transcript -after- you're hopefully accepted.

But say my class rank greatly improves my senior year?

I mean people who read my stuff from other threads realize, I had a weak freshmen year, a meh sophomore year, but I am finally dedicated and comfortable at my school and plan to have a VERY strong Junior and Senior year.

So I could be in the top 25% the beginning of my senior year with a 3.5 GPA, but I could have be in the top 10% my senior year with 3.8 GPA and with 3 more AP scores and becoming lead in some ECs.

Do you know which month your ranks are calculated? Unfortunately, if it's after decision day (March 15th or so) it'll have nearly no effect on your application. If it's calculated a little beforehand, you can probably wait until last minute to send in your Mid-Year Report, haha.

IDK, Put it this way, But it rank is calculated before, then it isn't true rank.

For example las year we had people with a hundredth of a point and they were constantly being switched from rank 1 to 3 or 11 to 8...etc.

So I imagine EA or ED won't be a good idea if I need to bring my grades up.

Same with SATII and AP tests....

if you are applying to UCs, no matter how great you do senior yr it doesnt matter.
