About summer class

Hey guys, I got my admission from ucla.
But in my original application, I did not report I am going to take summer classes.
Before summer section, I have already finished my IGETC and all prerequisites.
I want to take history and political science to fulfill a requirement for graduation.
Can I take summer class in CC? Will it affect my admission?

I already email ucla admissions, but they responded that they will not answer any hypothetical questions...

I assume you’re talking about the American Institutions requirement. I think one course of either US History or Poli Sci in addition to IGETC is sufficient to meet the requirement unless your particular major or college has additional requirements.

Regarding summer sessions, UCLA doesn’t care and probably even encourages you taking any stuff you can so you won’t have to take it there.

yeah, the American Institutions requirement.
I check ucla website, and shows that one year study about American history and political science…
I took other classes to fulfill IGETC… So, I wish I can finish this requirement before transfer.

Congratulations on getting admitted at UCLA, I was in your shoes last year. UCLA has a relaxed policy when it comes to summer school. A lot of students go travel abroad (no money so i cant go), going to another UC, or even going to a community college.

If you qualify take the Transfer Summer Program offered by AAP, almost everyone get A’s is a good way to start UCLA with a 4.0 (your CCC GPA is different from your UCLA GPA). I regret not doing that last year.

Be warned that that UCLA frowns upon students taking CCC classes during the Fall,Winter, or Summer quarter.

I’m pretty sure you only need to take one class, not both. The year of study you are referring to only applies to high school work. Here’s what it says

Completing a year’s course in American history or American government, or a one-year combination of both, in high school with an average grade of B or better

OR

Completing any one of the following UCLA courses with a grade of C or better, or a grade of Passed:

And then it lists a bunch of courses and at the end it also says

Equivalent courses completed in UCLA Extension or at another college institution, and accepted by the Board of Admissions, may be used to fulfill the requirement

So probably either one of the courses you are looking at taking would be equivalent. Like History 101 or Poli Sci 101 or whatever the first courses for either subject are at your school. You can use assist.org to check for equivalent. If you don’t fully believe this, ask your counselor to make sure.

I got it, thank you so much~
