I'm planning to take the US history SAT II test and I was wondering if the real tests ever asked you questions like:"Why was the election of 1848 significant?"
or "Which issues were the main points of debate in the election of 1900?".

Because these questions came up in Sparknotes and it would be really annoying if you had to remeber what happened in a certain year's election...I sort of expected the questions to be like, "What happened in the president Franklin Pierce's election"

Oh, and could anyone give me some advice on books or materials for review? I'm using Barrons now...no textbooks..

Thx!~

no there are no questions specifically on presidential debates. if u took ap us history your set. i got a 750 without even studying. i advise ap notes for review online.o and pierce was a dark horse for his election

This is should have been posted in the “SAT Subject Tests Preparation” section of the forums.

Anyways, you should be familiar with the most important elections.

Ex:
[ul]
[] 1788 - George Washington
[] 1796 - first real election Adams v. Jefferson (Adams won and Jefferson became VP)
[] 1800 - transfer of power
[] 1824 - corrupt bargain between Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams
[li] 1864 - country divided[/ul]
[/li]

Those are just a few. On top of that you should be familiar with general political trends. When certain parties emerged and perished. Dates aren’t really significant so don’t dwell on miniscule facts and be more focused on the big picture.

This is my first post and I thought it was posted on the sat subjects prep forum…so where is this posted now?
Thanks~ It’s great to know few specific dates are of importance in the test.

ap review notes online? do you know any good websites for those?
