About Yale Legacy

Hello, I'm a international student currently preparing for U.S. college applications. I have some questions regarding college selection and admissions.

Just to describe my status with the official scores, I've received 2350(combined) 2340 (single) in the SAT and have 3 SAT subject scores: Chemistry 800, Math IIC 790, World History 780. I have 10 AP scores, of which 7 are 5 and the rest are 4.

I am interested in applying to Princeton or Yale for early, but I am not sure if this is the appropriate score range for application. Some of my teachers say my scores are not high enough to apply to the top universities that I want to apply and some say my scores are fine. I wanted to know for sure if my official scores match Princeton or Yale.

One other question is regarding legacy. One of my parents went to Yale School of Drama after graduating a university in Korea. Would graduate school legacy help as well? If so, what kind /how much advantage will I receive from this kind of legacy?

Thank you, and I will wait for replies!

I don’t know about the legacy, but your scores are in range.

You might be rejected but it won’t be because your scores are in any way, defiicient. Your Yale grad legacy will be noted but likely have minimal affect.

Ignore the people who told you your scores are too low. They don’t know anything about the SAT and scoring. What I will say is, legacy at Yale has had a diminishing impact on college admissions. 10% of the student body has legacy and the money doesn’t make it much better. More children of Yale’s Sterling Donors get rejected than accepted. And those are people who have donated more than $1,000,000 to Yale in their lifetimes and have been elected by a committee. So you shouldn’t count on legacy to get you in.
