AcaDeca

Ok, so this is my first year doing Academic Decathlon - and the first year my school is actually trying to put together a competitive team.

I've read all of the guides through once and obviously I'll review them again, but what else can I do to help myself prepare? Any study tips, advice, etc.?

Everywhere online it says to get resources from Demidec. I went to the site and just the basic package is $700 ($1400 with added resources). There's no way my school is going to pay for something like that (or myself! haha). And almost every state-winning team uses their resources, including my state's. It seems almost cheap in a way...but then again the quality of education is usually associated with more money which is associated with the ability to buy these resources.

Ah well.......any advice for someone starting in his first year of AcaDeca would be awesome. There's no senior members for me to learn from.

Bumpity Bump

Does your team have an academic or quiz bowl team that you can join?

Personally, our school does not go crazy with the studying.
We have a few dedicated people on our team (more last year than this year), but the extent of their studying is just trying to get in most of the packets.
But we manage to do pretty well.
Last year we were 20 pts short of third place at districts (which is one extra question wrong compared to the third place school), so we ended up tying for 4th and making it to states still. Last year, fifth place team went to states as well.
This year however, we came in 5th but the cut off for states was at 4th, so now we have to do this separate competition with all the schools that were cut off, and the winner of that one goes to states. So, hopefully, we will end up at states... crosses fingers

How did everyone else here on Acadec do?
