Muzzy! I think I remember that, only I used to watch it for English when I didn't speak any.

Zante...did you say you were chinese?

laurenemma, do you go to yale?

I don't go to Yale. I went for an official athletic visit in September and all of the other athletes and just normal students think people who do directed studies are insane. The people that do it are quite stressed most of the time.

i love humanities and would love to do DS because the subject matter sounds insanely fascinating... but i am also going to play rugby at Yale and some other ECs...and a social life. Any thoughts on whether that is doable or whether i should forget DS alltogether?

LOL MUZZY! my mom was obsessed with teaching herself (and everyone around her) French and bought the tapes for us, so I actually know them by heart. But then in Spanish I, we watched the Spanish tapes - all the characters had different names and voices, it threw me off so badly lol

And the thing is, the commercials for it haven't changed since the 80's, they're still the same ones! "Je sui MUZZY, la GRAN Muzzy!" and then, like someone said, that girl spears her chest with her own thumb and goes "Je sui la jeune fille!"

I love the lady that goes "Yes that's French they're speaking." It's hilarious.

I don't know how much time rugby would take. I am a rower and I talked to people when I was there that were saying it is crazy to do Crew and DS.

beechbum, yes I am chinese.

Zante...i thought thats what you said...the only chinese phrase i know how to say is Ni xing-qi liu lai wo jia hao ma...meaning..would you like to come to my house on friday/saturday (i forgot which day).

My goal is to learn Japanese in college.

I think I'm gonna add Japanese to my list too...

lol, you said saturday.

I'm going to take chinese in college because I'm illiterate now :o
and I'll continue taking spanish so then I'll know the world's three most popular languages.

lol...chinese was hard for me becuz you had like...4 different sounds you could put on one syllable and you could completely screw up your sentence.

Yea the inflections are what get people. I think japanese is easier because it's just like, monotone lol but they totally stole the language from us :p

lol....i also think chinese symbols are coolers....some of the japanese ones are these dopey curls and crap.

hahaha!

i think japanese writing is based on chinese writing. chinese writing IS prettier.

OMG! Talk about ironic......

The book I bought a couple years ago to learn to write chinese.....was created by the Yale Language Dept. and printed by Yale University Press! I just noticed this tonight...

I'm worried though that I won't be able to become fluent in Japanese because I don't want to major or minor in it. I'm interested in so many other things that take precedence- like psychology, maybe film studies, that I wouldnt be able to minor in it, and I dont think I'll be able to learn it without a major or a minor.

it's all up to how much work you want to put into it.......there was a kid who was able to read japanese just because he studied the manuals for nintendo games.

lol I don't think I could self-teach myself a language, even if I were desperate to know what the video game instruction said.

Yale doesn't even have minors =/
