academic chance me for ucsd

im not posting my ECs yet cause i wish to see how my academic performance compares for now.

UW GPA: 3.44
ACT: (taking in september; expecting a 35 atleast cause i hit a 33 and a 34 on 2 of them 4 released exams).
SAT: 1860(took it in march to see my starting point. was aiming to take it last week but i couldn't as i got injured the day before. was estimating atleast a 2100).
SAT2s: 800 Chem/780 Math2(should i sign up for another for october)
APs: scores aren't out yet but hopefully a 4 on ap chem/ap psych and 5 on micro and i bombed macro(probably a 1-2).
as for classes

5 honors classes. by the end of senior year i will have 13 AP classes(4 junior year/9 senior year)

location:out of state

pretty much my only problem is my low GPA which i will be explaining on my essay. i am trying to register for courses this summer to bring my gpa up to like a 3.6ish....

bump pump~

Your ACT is up to par, but you UW GPA is pretty low. It doesn’t help that you are out of state…it makes it far more competitive. Keep trying to raise that UW GPA, and keep adding your EC’s.

well yeah that is why i mentioned i am out of state which sorta sucks.(i have heard they like cali hs grads better or w/e.)
didn’t mention my ECs yet cause i don’t have any.
i am trying to get down about 500-600 hrs of volunteer work this summer. i also ran for 6 different positions for clubs these past 2 years and i lost in all of them by like 2-3 votes which freaking sucks(like no joke i was freaking ****ed.). now all my ECs that i do this summer are what i will have. going to get my working papers 2mrw~
i was thinking of starting a business this summer( a small animation business which will be sponsored my friends and family. i could easily raise around 5k and maybe more) and send all profits to a relief fund. if that works out, it will look sick.

i have signed up for 2 different classes this summer in order to improve my gpa and i have scheduled an appointment with my gcoun to talk about taking college courses over the summer.

Honestly, showing only your academic record isn’t going to help predict your chances of getting into UCSD. My counselor and my older brother (Class of 09) refused to look at my application until I was willingly ready to show the whole thing.

Your 3.44 stands out, but that’s one part of your application. You can make up for it with excellent essays, excellent EC records, and excellent testing scores (like your SAT 2) and still get in. I know there are some who got in with a lower GPA, but try to raise yours for safety reasons…

…unless that 3.44 counts all years in high school because freshmen year does not count.

um, we ARE a state school. that’s generally how it works.

but fortunately for you, UC schools are not as picky regarding OOSers as before, thanks to our plentiful budget woes.

Don’t let one part of your application get you to think that you’re going to be rejected. Sure, it’s a low GPA, but you CAN make it up, like the above poster said. Don’t believe me? My UC GPA was 3.08. I’m going to UCSD this fall

wow nice physex. my gpa seriously became a burden for me starting this year. i moved and family problems occured which caused me to bomb my first semester and part of my second semester of junior year. i am back on track now(therapy and all).
anyways i always felt like colleges would mostly look at ur gpa the most. like if u don’t have the proper gpa they throw ur app out…
guess that’s not the case.

The biggest factor for admission in UCSD is GPA, it seems you have honors and AP but if you have a low GPA it only shows you took more then you can chew, your SAT is a little above average which might help but it still counts less then your GPA so I really do not think you are going to be accepted, because you probably need at least a 3.5 GPA before your application gets to any human hands, it just the way it works with so much competition, try San Diego state they might accept you with a 3.04 GPA or do not worry you can always go to community collage and transfer in 2-3 years :] good luck

philosofer: " you probably need at least a 3.5 GPA before your application gets to any human hands"

completely false. i am living proof, as well as another guy i know who got in with a 3.2
