true that. i estimate a 40-50 hour week for Decathlon. And APs and SATs come with it. If there's something that needs to be done, the busy person is more likely to complete it than is the person who has only school to worry about.

I started acadec at my school 2 years ago. but I can't really push my members to study. It's sooo hard to get them to do anything. When i plan meetings, usually a few come, and we haev 20 members. I just don't know what to do. It really frustrates me. Can you fellow acadec-ers help me out? =]

hey yequalsfofx my coach uses the term "gel" all the time :)
it's true that by february the material can get painfully boring, but i really enjoy decathlon. i had never really hung out many c kids before but they're the coolest. lazy in school but crazy brilliant. my team is great bc we don't sell our souls to decathlon or live and breathe the study guides, yet we do really well at competition. i study around 5-9 hrs a week and i got 4th overall in honors in TX last yr. my school is lucky with funding though. our district even reimburses us for eating out when we're competing. yay. a lot of good times on road trips to meets and staying up late goofing off in the hotel too.

Decathlon is a blast at my school as well. I've been an honors starter all four years, and its one of my favorite ECs. I like the music this year, but I HATE the History. Does anyone actually like the history?

i love the plow comment. did the history guide specify what period it was from? Ubaid? Uruk? Jemdt Nasar? ... haha...

i love academic decathlon. i'm from california, and i guess it's pretty intense here. i do not study 8 hours a day (that is crazy. how would one manage homework, especially with all AP classes?), but I have read an article about the infamous El Camino Real (last year's national champs) studying that much. i guess i could study that much if i didn't have school work, family obligations, or the desire for somewhat of a social life... nonetheless, i love academic decathlon.

We have an ac dec team, but it hasn't been decent since our quiz bowl coach forced everyone in quiz bowl to do it. I joined this year, specifically so I could do the astro super quiz. If all of the competent people in our school actually realized that they didn't have to put any work forth to go to the competition, then we'd do amazingly well. Anyway, our quiz bowl team is a powerhouse, although we still can't beat tj a no matter how hard we try. second in the nation in the kmo isn't bad though. Science Olympiad also attracts most of the smart people at our school. We used to go to nationals yearly, but that stopped two years ago.

tj a's legacy really started last year. they only lost one match all season, and it looks like they're going to be even more invincible this year.

wow, i think this the most active deca thread i've seen on CC, a nice discovery for me at 12AM while READING ABOUT SUMERIANS!!! We spend alot of time too. For apps, i put 25 hr per week for deca. I sure hope that'll stand out and explain y my other ec's are so lame. Good to know i'm not the only one who think deca is worth it just for its own sake.
PS I'm also from LAUSD

"by plow, i mean a bronze tipped plow like those of the Sumerians"

lol. I'm not in AcaDec (I'm a Mock Trial nerd myself) but tons of my friends are. You just reminded me of one of my friends, who says stuff like you did /all the time/. Especially since he loves Ancient Civs. To get ready for county competition, he and another friend played a "your mom" insult game.

"Your mom's a Voyager--that's RIGHT she discovered one of Saturn's moons!" You had to be there.
