Academic Prestige

Slipper, the last time I saw the selectivity stats for Emory, they were pulling in 42% of their apps. It's a great university and a liberal bastion in an otherwise conservative section of the country. But, I don't think Wesleyan loses many students to it.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

You are welcome, wraider2006.

Cornell and Gtown, equivalent prestige. Is that even a joke? Who are you kidding.

although i didnt say it, i dont think it's a joke. there're many people who dont know Cornell but know GTown, and vice versa

Very true. Besides, Georgetown's polisci is, in many cases, unrivaled. THey just need to increase their endowment and they would be top 15 or higher. That's all that is pulling them back. Also, Georgetown is WAY harder to get into than Cornell. Its even harder to get into than most top schools. Georgetown has probably one of the greatest libraries as well.

"top 15"

not happening. top 15 with THAT peer-accessment score????
it will drop............usnews will take selectivity away.....

first of all, how do you know that georgetown is harder to get in. The last time, I checked they have similar stats, with Gtown having a lower acceptance rate, which means virtually nothing, b/c they get kids applying that are not qualified, and are propelled to apply b/c of family reasons, or w.e.

Devil, you should open up your own US News magazine, and it called Mista Devil Ranking system in collaboration with Slipper. Some of the things that come of your mouth are ignorant and completely unfounded. You talk like you know the world, but you know very little. I might sound harsh, but I do not make statements like you that have no merit what-so-ever. Idk what your hs stats were, but if I had to bet, mine were stronger b/c I do not make idiotic statements like you do. Have a nice day

Bballlerrr

DMC, Georgetown is not that good in Political Science. It is actually average in Political Science. You are confusing International Relations with Political Science. It's like saying that that Harvard is unrivaled in Engineering simple because it has a top 3 Physics.

Georgetown's library is not that special and in terms of selectivity, Georgetown is not more selective than cornell. Those two schools are about equally selective.

B-ball...how am I misranking? I value things differently than you. I value community, grad placement, etc and have seen much more of the world than you have.

man, i feel like the only person who knows what he's talking about is Alexandre. other than the fact that he's biased about Michigan, his posts are pretty correct.......

i agree w. him as well, i do not think anyone knows wat the f they are talking about. Alexandre, for one has studied and spent time and money studying universities, was a recruitor, I believe, and knows what he is talking about. He is a little biased w. Michigan of course, but who doesn't love their alma matter, slipper certaintly does, and takes every chance he gets to bash columbia (his former school) and others like cornell.

BBall, I am actually not biased toward Michigan. I admit that I love the school, but I admit its shortcomings and criticize Michigan openly. And by the way, I am also a Cornell alumnus...MILR '01.

Slipper gave me good advice when I was picking colleges...

Woah BBall. Now you are seriously getting on my nerves. I seriously could care less about what your HS stats were. Truth is, You are going to Cornell and I am going to Duke, so I consider myself to be the victor already.

Did I read your post correctly? You are saying that you never say unfounded things on this board, correct? What HAVE YOU SAID THAT HAD EVIDENCE YET!?!??!?!?!? OMG all you do is pull personal anecdotes out of thin air and expect me to take you seriously. I don't. Moreover, you said Uchicago's a really good school because....THEY HAD HARD ESSAYS ON THE APPLICATION. What the hell?

I don't know which is really supposed to have a better prestige, but my GC said that for me, Cornell was a reach while Georgetown was 50/50 chance in her opinion.

No i fully agree that Cornell > Georgetown. But Georgetown is not garbage compared to Cornell by any means.

b-ball if you want my resume:

1) I have attended 2 Ivy League Undergrad Colleges and have gone through the admissions process twice
2) I worked for a "top tier" consulting firm
3) I recruited for this firm
4) I attend a "top ten" business school
5) I interview for my Ivy League undergrad school
6) I work in the admissions office for my graduate school
7) I attended a high school where almost 30% of the student body goes to top 25 schools
8) I have many friends at top graduate schools and two who work in admissions at Ivy schools

Bball you are some high school kid. I bash Columbia for its community atmosphere, its acadmics are great for some. My point is that 'academically' at the grad level it might be considered superior to Dartmouth yet at the undergrad level I found this to be largely irrelevant and Dartmouth to be in fact an overall far superior experience.

Devil May Care: "Moreover, you said Uchicago's a really good school because....THEY HAD HARD ESSAYS ON THE APPLICATION. What the hell?"

That makes sense. He was commenting on their self-selectivity, something that I thought most people agreed about. He was saying that due to the nature of UChicago, and part of it is their hard, strange essay questions, only people who are serious about college would apply. Tons of people throw off an app to Harvard, or any school on the Common App list. But it takes extra work to apply to UChicago, which is why its acceptance rate is so high. They could easily lower their acceptance rate by accepting the Common App, because people wouldn't have to spend a lot of extra time on their application.

Does that make sense to you now?
