Hi everyone,
I am a rising junior planning to study economics and minor in maths in college and I have a question.
Due to some circumstances, I can’t take calculus in highschool (lengthy so won’t go into it).
I want to be ready for college so I’ve decided to study precalc and calculus on my own with the help of edx (courses by asu and mit). I can’t pay for online school as it’s 600 dollars for a full year class.
My question is if I tell colleges that even though I haven’t studied calc from highschool, I have studied it using online resources and show them certificates from edx , will that be enough to show them that I am academically ready.
I don’t expect any college credit ofc. I was wondering if this is a viable solution to my problem.
Will you have completed a precalculus course in school by the time you graduate from high school?
Contrary to popular belief, calculus in high school is not required to study a math-intensive major in college. If you have completed precalculus, you would start college taking calculus 1 in your first semester.
Yes I will have completed precalc honors and ap statistics by then because I have the prerequisites for them
Colleges are not going to take your word for it that you studied Calc on your own. Your guidance counselor can explain why you haven’t been able to take calc. And it isn’t a really big deal. Colleges offer calc. Take it as a freshman.

Oh no, I will share certificates with them which you get upon success completion of the course. But since it doesn’t sound like too much of problem, I’ll just learn for the fun of it . Thank you for the response
