For some people, football is the first thing that comes to mind when I mention USC. Does this cloud the academic reputation?

Does winning football cloud the reputations of Stanford (well, not lately as to the winning), UCB, Michigan, UVA, Notre Dame, Boston College, or UCLA?

In the middle of nowhere= USC? University of Spoiled Children? Football? That was about all I got... sigh. Some other people knew what a great school USC was though and I was happy about taht...

lol uyulove... u shoulda asked them why they thought USC was in the middle of nowhere..u shoulda been like ..it's in LA.. how is that the middle of nowhere?!!!... that doesn't make sense!!!

HAHAHA!!! UC Davis...Cornell...now THEY'RE in the middle of nowhere.

on the east coast USC = Uni Southern Carolina

but football fans will recognize it

Actually it's South Carolina, and USC only means that in South Carolina, and along the borders of North Carolina and Georgia. It certainly doesn't mean that in Northern Virgina. South Carolina is not a terrible school, but it has fairly low visibility. They are actively recruiting out of state applicants.

No no I mean I was in middle of nowhere (southern middle states) and that's what they thought about USC around that area.. ^_^;; sorry

URGH cornell.. My bro goes to that school and I lived in that area for a little bit. I DID NOT APPRECIATE ITHACA. It's empty and the only thing to do around there is to goto the mall... which is tiny (has bestbuy and borders in it too because it can't go anywhere else) I'm so glad I'm going to LA instead (although I'm not a big fan of big cities. I like middle sized surburbian towns personally.. but adjusting once again should be interesting...)

I'm on the westside of Los Angeles, top tier of community for education, economics, etc... I'm also a Bruin whose son is going to USC in the fall...

Here's the scoop --- EVERYONE around here knows that SC has far surpassed their old "U of Spoiled Children" rep and moved into the Big Leagues. If you want to stay in LA (esp business or film) there is no better school. Even UCLA grads are slapping my son on the back & saying "CONGRATS!!! You must be brilliant." (I kid you not...of course, then they raz his UCLA alum parents to death as well...!!!) It does not hurt that he rec'd an academic scholarship from Marshall.

Listen to the reputation of USC out where it matters: in the job market!

UCLA parents raise their child so he can go to USC. Upward mobility? LOL
