I ask this because although I love the school, I'm not sure if I'm set to live in LA after graduating. Will the name USC open doors in the midwest/east coast?

Thanks

USC is a good school, but its strongest reputation is in southern California. People in the Midwest / East coast will likely not be impressed by USC unless they are from the West coast. But they wouldn’t be with many other colleges either. Most college reputations are regional.

That said, it won’t hurt you either. If you like the school, and it’s affordable, there’s no reason I can see why you shouldn’t go there.

I’d say so, but I’d have to agree with the above poster that it’s strongest presence is in the West. Ironically, when I first heard of USC, I thought they were referring to the University of South Carolina. But yeah, the USC alumni network the Trojans, are VERY strong though and will open many doors for you if you make those connections.

It depends on which field you are interested in, as in some USC is very recognizable (film and engineering for example). But don’t worry about what others may think. USC is a very impressive schools by any means, and any people knowledgeable about colleges will know that.

I’ve been on the east coast most of my life and I’ve never made that mistake, @shawnspencer. USC is much less regional in rep than South Carolina. In the circles in which I travel in DC and Maryland, USC is a national uni with a large pacific rim rep. People speak of USC’s rep bumping up the last ten years because of celebrity endorsements, but it’s been on my radar for 40 years. Maybe it’s all the sports teams or LA or the Beach Boys, but they’ve had a national rep for a long time.

Only people in South Carolina think USC is the University of South Carolina. The rest of the country KNOWS that USC means USC.

It’s the sports teams… with incidental college attached.

I’m accepted to marshall which i know is a great business school. However, should I switch to dornsife, will i still have a good amount of opportunies to get internship/ job offers?

Yeah, Dornsrife is very impressive. I looked at their neurosci last year, but couldn’t figure out a way to pay for it.
