Academic Rigor...

Hey everyone. I am a pretty average student - I don't spend all of my time studying or reading and I do have a social life. I was wondering if it would be hard for me to "keep up" with the difficulty of the courses since I'm not really a "nerd" type, no offense to anyone...Do you think that I would be totally overwhelmed, or could I adjust to the toughness?

Only you can answer that. There is more than merely adjusting. Do you have the proper foundation to be able to to rigorous work, or will you have to go back and pick up things you missed before you can even start on the new material? I am a HS teacher, and in many classes this isn't such an issue, but it is in foreign language. So this is aocncern of mine for all my students as they move to the next levels. It just gets harder. And you don't have to be a nerd to be studious. Many of my best students are also well-rounded individuals who get along well with their peers. Ask yourself this: Do I want to work hard, and perhaps on my own review things that I forgot or never paid attention to? Am I self-motivated? What do I prize more - sociability or an education? These are the most important questions to ask yourself before putting out the $ for a school. Was you inattention to your education based on age - teenager- or is this what you really are like and don't want to change? Are you happy with yourself the way things went? You definitely need to self-analyze and see who YOU are. That said, I am sure there are kids at UofCh who put socializing ahead of scholarship. They probably won't be on the Dean's list, however. The college experience is what you make it. Any other schools you are considering?

We are on the same page but I am absolutely sure I can dominate (or survive).
