I know many schools offer academic scholarships for students who attend their college who maintain a certain GPA, I was wondering if UMD had this as well? If so, how many for how much and what GPA must one maintain? Just curious.
You can find a list of scholarships that incoming freshmen are eligible for here:
https://www.admissions.umd.edu/finance/freshmanscholarships.php
They range from a couple thousand to full ride all four years. Generally you have to maintain a 3.2 GPA and take 30 credits a year to keep the scholarship.
A lot depends on your major. There are many departmental scholarships available for students who have earned a certain GPA at Maryland, and you typically apply in the spring for the following fall. The scholarship synack referred you to is based on your high school stats (test scores and GPA, among other things).
In addition to these scholarships, the departmental ones I am referring to are not for incoming freshman. The specific amounts of each award and GPA needed are not advertised per se, but in the case of engineering (as an example), you submit one application with a copy of your Maryland transcript and you are considered for all available scholarships that you would be eligible for and they award them accordingly.
For incoming freshman, there are a few departmental scholarships for incoming freshman, but a separate application is not necessary – I am only referring to the need for an application for those scholarships that you specified as, “for students who attend their college who maintain a certain GPA.”
You can get a sense of the number available by going to this page http://advancement.umd.edu/celebration/listScholarships.php
and click on the department that your major falls under. It will show you all of the departmental scholarships.
Thank you both so much!
