Academics and Athletics

Muhlenberg is the best pre-med program in the Lehigh Valley but it doesn't require the SAT. Does that make it harder or easier to get into? Also, how many extracurricular activities are they looking for from high school students? I barely have a page in as far as I can tell, excluding my senior year activities (I'm about to be a senior) and low GPA...barely a 3.0 weighted. I will be taking the SAT (I know most people at Muhlenberg do take it and they get an average score of 1200-1280/1600, which I can probably beat without breaking a sweat, hopefully).

What is their athletic program like? I am focused on soccer, and maybe swimming and cricket if they offer and I can manage.

SAT can only help you… I got a 1930 and i would say that it helped me to submit it. If i had something lower like a 1700 then i wouldn’t have submitted it… I’d say it did help me get some merit aid though. I think the minimum SAT you need for a scholarship is 1300 (2 part), but i’d have to double check on that. They’re (and this includes any school) not looking for a certain amount of ECs… no school really is. What you do in the ECs and how they affected you is what they care about- you can have 20 ECs, but if none of them mean anything to you it’s not as good as having 2 or 3 that you’re really passionate about.

I was pretty similar to you. My GPA was a 3.35 (if i remember correctly) going into my senior year- didn’t challenge myself, didn’t really try much but i got by off being naturally smart. I took 3 AP classes my senior year and had As in all of them- i think this was a big part of them accepting me.

As far as athletics go, they have a damn good soccer team- ranked 14 or 15 nationally last year i think. I spoke to the soccer coach at my advising day since i was contemplating trying out this year; he seems like a nice guy and if you have any questions try emailing him (im sure you can find his email address online). Sorry I can’t help you with swimming and cricket.

Good luck!

Thanks so much JW1212 that’s pretty helpful.

when I went for my interview in august, the information I was given said that although SATs are optional, they are required if you wish to be considered for merit aid. Also: i THINK minimum for their big scholarships was around 1250 CR+M.
