Academics and playing a D3 sport (Women's Golf?)

I am planning on attending a liberal arts college, and many of these colleges are Division 3 in athletics. I would like to play Women's Golf at this level. However, I also plan to be a biology major and go to medical school. How hard is it to play a D3 sport and keep up with academics? Pre-med academics are time-consuming enough, and I am worried that golf will take away too much time in college. What is the time commitment for a D3 sport? Are LAC professors understanding about time spent playing sports? Any help would be appreciated!

My D plays d3 golf at a northeast liberal arts college. They practice from 4-6 four days a week most of the year. It is both a fall and spring sport. No classes are scheduled from 4-6 at her college so there is no class conflict. However she misses about 10 weekends during the school year because of tournaments that require travel on Friday and are played on Saturday and Sunday. The profs do not normally give any break to athletes. However she has several friends that play a sport and are pre-med and have top grades. You have to be more organized than most and limit your social life. You can make great friends on the team. This is much harder to do at the D1 level where they practice 20 hours a week.
