Academics: Rigorous or Overworked

I have a question about the workload at Elon.
I know it depends upon the class, the teacher and the student.
There is nothing wrong with a rigorous class or work environment, but work just to be working, as some schools have the reputation for, is not productive.
What is it like at Elon?

Strange that no one answered this yet–might be better to hear from a current student, but I will give my two cents worth. Of all my sons classes, there is only one where he questioned the work. It was a German class, which was an elective for him since he had tested out of the foreign language requirement. The professor assigned multiple projects which didn’t seem relevant(the words of my son). Other than that his classes have been rigorous, but manageable. His most fulfilling class might be his most rigorous class–a history class with a teacher known to be difficult but excellent. The expectations were given out in writing–don’t come to class if you are unprepared!

I think it greatly depends on the class and professor. Some classes are very writing intensive. I know freshman year my s wrote many long papers. He felt like he learned a lot and was challenged. Had one really BAD professor who did not show up a lot or would show up give an assignment and leave. As this was a math class it was not good. He is taking another math this semester - totally different experience.

Ditto above; and adding: even within the same course, course workload and rigor vary greatly depending on the professor…

in addition… freshman D has been slammed with a couple of professors who like “pop quizzes” and these were not math classes…

lots and lots of writing which she prefers…

Definitely rigorous but I don’t think she would characterize it as “overworked” or “unproductive”

As a current student I would say its rigorous but certainly not in any way going to kill you. I have found the workload to be quite manageable for my classes, and there are so many options available for tutoring and extra help, you really have to not be trying to not do well at Elon. just my two cents…
