Accelerated Graduation

Has anyone gone through the accelerated graduation process at Brown? I’m currently working on petitioning to the committee to graduate this May due to a job offer that starts in July and is contingent on graduation. (I took a semester off during my junior year). I meet pretty much all the categories here https://www.brown.edu/academics/college/degree/policies/accelerated-graduation, except for having 2/3 A’s. I have 50% A’s. How strict are they with this requirement? I would think it’s close enough––but I’m so paranoid about having my petition denied, and losing my job offer. I also worked 2 part time jobs consistently throughout my education, which I plan on talking about in my letter to the committee. I’m sure I could have bumped up the percentage a bit if I hadn’t had to work during school.

Anyone gone through this process before and been given exceptions? I’m wondering because they were very strict about the breadth requirement and having 2 classes in every category. I’m currently overloading while abroad this semester to fulfill that requirement.

53% are A’s actually if you round up. I forgot I had an s with dist. in one course i took pass/fail. And 2/3 would be 66%. So I am not that far off really. I would hope they would make an exception for that small of a difference.

Is it really worth paying the full 8th semester tuition to be able to start this job in July?

^good point. I’m assuming there is no financial aid for this “8th semester”?

Yeah, the enrollment requirement is such a ridiculous policy and that is something I am currently working on getting an exception for, given that I am on nearly full financial aid. But that’s currently being worked on, and if I can get that waived due to being on financial aid, then it is worth it.
