NMS finalists have to make the following selection by 4/10. DS3's first-choice college is "UNDECIDED" even though he is leaning toward a school which does not award NMF any scholarship. On the other hand, our state school awards $1000/yr (or $4000 for four years) to finalists. We called NMSC and was told that the selection will not be changed. So, if DS3 accepts the term today but decides to go to our state school on 4/30, he is going to lose $1500. Is this correct?

Thanks

I have read carefully the Terms that govern acceptance and continuation of this scholarship, and I accept or decline the offer, as indicated below:

1) I accept the scholarship offered to me under the Terms of the scholarship.

2) I decline the scholarship offer to me (reason given below)

That may be correct. It usually is correct. You can only accept one “official” NMF scholarship.

However, you need to call the school to be sure. Some will let you take the $2500 for the first year, and then just directly give you the money for the OTHER years (but not thru NMcorp). So, you need to find out from the school and get the answer in writing if it’s favorable.

Thanks for the input. Luckily, the corporation sponsored scholarship ($1000/yr) came through. NMS notified DS3 about the option to accept or decline. It seems to me that NMS should wait until 5/1 (student college decision) or corporation sponsor announcement before asking students to make the decision.
