I was happy with my scores til I saw this thread, you guys don't joke huh? Anyway, good luck to all of you, I'm out before I get an ulcer :)

atomicfusion:
Would you mind explaining why you think I'm a troll? It's not even as if my scores or ECs are better than half the people getting chanced on CC anyways. What, is it the tone of my post?

understood - but just chill out - colleges do compare from school to school - but if ur school is very competitive - this might give u an edge

UCLA and Stanford are both notoriously unpredictable, though you're clearly well-qualified for the former, and really are for the latter, as well. Just be wary of unpredictable admissions. There's only so much you can do about them.

Pitzer is technically a safety for you, but it does have the semi-unfortunate reputation of acting out against its "safety Claremont" role and rejecting well/over-qualified applicants who it thinks might view it only as a safety. If you do have an interest in the school, make sure it shines through when filling out the application. If you're interested in Claremont and are female, it may be worth your time to look a little more into Scripps, although you should be in at one if not both of CMC/Pomona.

USC should be a relative safety.

Keep your situation in perspective and try hard not to come off as inconfident/self-depricating in your applications as you did here. It was accidental and you've gotten some good feedback, but your stats really are good enough that it easily reads the wrong way.

Good luck!

Thanks much for the input! I'll definitely be sure to work more on my actual app to not sound so insecure, esp. considering a few of the responses here that weren't so taken with my approach to this thread. I actually hadn't viewed Pitzer as a safety; I'm pretty interested in it and I hope I'll still be after I visit this summer. I admit to being put off by Scripps because of the all-girl factor, even though I know I can still take classes at any of the other Claremont colleges, but I'll look into it a bit more.

Anybody have any suggestions for other colleges I might look into in California? It seems a little unsafe for me to apply to so few schools, esp. considering the UC apps are all the same. Any other input on the colleges I've listed?

try caltech. if you want to that is

I don't think this person is a troll...he/she is not being overtly obnoxious, lol. Everyone, chillllll

Stanford- apply international and u might have a pretty good shot
UC Berkeley-in
UCLA-in
UC San Diego-in
Pomona-in
Claremont McKenna-in
Pitzer-in
USC-in

"I admit to being put off by Scripps because of the all-girl factor"
well
if i were u i would be glad its all girls

if i could go it would be amazing (cuz im a guy)
but i see ur point (being that ur a girl)

dont bother listening to the, my friend had better than u and didnt get in, schools like stanford go well beyond numbers and it sounds like uv got atleast a 30% chance of getting in there, which is about as good as one can get at a place like that.

Since you are interested in Claremont as a whole and you want some particularly safe bets, I'd tour Scripps when you visit. Yes, it's a women's college, but it's a very unique one (cross-registration is only one small part of what the consortium offers), so if you're already going to be in Claremont, I'd definitely call it worth your time. One of the reasons I suggest this is b/c with your scores and ECs, you have an excellent shot at good merit money.

Feel free to PM if you have questions.

Ditto thebigticket re: Stanford. Good luck, again!

BIGTWIX:
I don't think I can apply international. I'm a US citizen. Thanks for chancing me though!

thebigticket:
Yeah, my friend had lower scores than mine, but he got in ED. I'm guessing he had fantastic essays and recs. It definitely isn't all about the scores.

Student615:
Hmm, it really wouldn't hurt to look at Scripps, then. I feel bad about giving it little more than a cursory glance because its all female. Thanks!

UCB/UCLA: Safe Match
UCSD: Safety

Your resume is very impressive, but the reality is that each year college admissions are becoming increasingly competitive, and unfortunately for you, the graduating class of 2008 will be the largest in history. When I graduated last year, I expected to be admitted to most of the schools I applied to, including several prestigious colleges such as Stanford and UCB.

An outline of my resume is as follows:
- Attended a private secondary school well noted for its academic rigor
- 4.0 average (Class Valedictorian), academic awards etc.
- Captain of the varsity soccer team 3 years in a row, MVP
- Played two years of Lacrosse, one JV one Varsity
- Community service hours volunteering at hospitals all 4 years, 400+ hours
- 2400 SAT
- Vice President of Executive Student Council
- Founder of Physics & Engineering Club

Much to my horror and surprise, I was rejected by UCB. I was waitlisted at Stanford....and deferred. Currently I attend USC, which is a good school by all means, but is certainly no Stanford.

I simply wish to illuminate the reality of college admissions. As you can see, it was exceptionally difficult in 2007, and you should expect even more competition this year.

Cheers :)
