Does my son have the stats to get accepted into the Clark School of Engineering Aerospace program? He is currently a junior in HS. 1460 SAT. 780 Math. 4.53 WGPA. Ranked first in his class. Loads of EC and leadership positions.
Is your son 6speed? (I just answered that poster with similar stats). Engineering does consider stats, but that’s not the whole picture. They evaluate the various aspects of an applicant from a different perspective than general university admissions. I’ve seen students with stellar “stats” not be admitted to engineering because (I believe) they don’t have a demonstrated interest in engineering per se. Are your son’s stats good enough as far as stats go? Yes, but that’s not a guarantee of direct admission to engineering as much as it is more an indicator of potential invite to either honors or scholars.
I would say Maryversity’s advice is right on the money.
My son didn’t have any major leadership positions and few ECs- but the ones he did, he did very well (Eagle Scout and multiple regional awards in music). He did, however, attend Space Camp in Huntsville, AL and wrote his Common App essay about something having to do with military aviation history.
ACT converted to about 1520 SAT, superscored, 6 AP (not many options at his school).
He ended up with a Presidential Scholarship, Honors and direct admission to aerospace.
