I applied to NYU, BU, Brandeis, UCONN, and Binghamton

Heh. I don't want to go to Stony, but it's a good safety. Basically looking forward to hearing from 4 other schools that I'll choose over Stony.

Hi all. My dtr is waiting to hear, but we're in NJ. I'm wondering how many of you that were accepted are out of state like her. I'm hoping she gets in. I saw it with my other dtr, but she hasn't seen it yet..we'll wait for the acceptance! BTW, heard SB is looking for more OOS, is that true? Thanks for any info.

im from CT and i got in

i got in!! just checked right now thanks to this site!!

Still no word for me <_<

Hey folks... we're hoping to get all the admissions decisions mailed out by next week. So if you haven't heard anything, hang in there. And if you don't hear anything, make sure your school sent us all your transcripts and test scores. (You might want to ask them to fax your info to us, just in case.)

It's a program for New York State residents, however.

To answer the OOS question... yes, our non-NYS population has increased quite a bit in the last couple of years. This fall, our OOS population will be somewhere around 15-20% of our incoming freshman class.

For those of you who have been admitted already, keep your eyes open for info on our Admitted Student Receptions; we hold a bunch of them on campus, and we'll hold them in Philly, Saddle Brook, Red Bank, West Hartford, Mystic, and Boston as well. Any questions, please let me know!

Thanks for your reply, Chris, about OOS. My daughter's application status page just changed to info for new students, so we're hoping that's good news! It still says her application will be reviewed shortly. Will she receive anything via snail mail? Looking forward to coming for a campus visit very soon!

Dietrt, my SOLAR account page changed about a week ago adding the "New Student Preferences", etc sections but the application status page was still reviewing . Three days ago I checked it again and it said congratulations because I had been admitted. I received my admissions packet yesterday in snail mail.

I believe that the SOLAR account of my friend that did not get in didn't even change to accommodate the new sections, so if your daughters has maybe it is some type of an indicator.

Thanks, Mike, that's what we assumed. Very excited, it's certainly one of her top choices!

Chris, I have a question about foreign language requirements. My understanding from the Stonybrook website is that one needs to score an 85 on the regents, or take two semesters of a foreign language. We are OOS, so my son does not take regent exams. Does this mean that he would need to pass some other objective exam if he elected to attend Stonybrook, or take 2 semesters of a foreign language? My other son is currently in an OOS public in another another state, and for his major he is not required to take any foreign language courses in college. Thank you.

Yep, that's been the dirty little secret that we weren't able to do anything about with the SOLAR system. There's a delay between the system decision and when it appears on the student's screen; that gives the admissions letter and packet time to get there.

But if your screen changed, and you see "New Student Preferences," you can safely say that we consider you a new student, so unofficially, congrats!

dietrt, we're hosting a few admitted student receptions in NJ next month (see the info in my post above); keep your eye on the mail!

NEMom, I addressed your question in your other thread, but I'll copy it here in case anyone here needs the info:

The requirement can be fulfilled by an 85 in a third-level (10th or 11th grade, depending on the school) course grade. If he has some fluency in another language, he could take what we call a "challenge exam" to fulfill the requirement; but if he has an 85 from Spanish 3 (or whatever) in high school, just have him send his HS transcript.

sbuadmissions, Thank you very much for your time and for your reply. This information is very helpful. Would you be able to tell me what the equivalent to an 85 is on an A,A-,B+,B,etc. scale? I assume that an 85 would be equivalent to a final grade of a B, but I am not sure.

Yep, an 85 is a B.

Thanks, Chris. Her page finally changed to say Admitted, but still nothing in the mail! I'm sure it's on its way. We may make a visit up one day next week as our high school is on vacation, and she still hasn't seen the school, but she would definitely also attend a NJ reception to meet other students!

Great! We'd love to have you. We'll be here all next week; the person you want to meet with is Katie Seale. If you know when you'd like to come, let me know and I'll mark you in the appointment book.
