Arjun, the class has roughly 3,500 people, meaning that Suna is right and you misintrepreted the definition of class. ED says it filled 36% of the class because the yield rate is almost 100% for ED. The statistics do not mean that 36% of the overall acceptances were ED.

Arjun, I believe I said 39 percent in my posts. Please go back and check, and get back to me on that. And . . . by my statistics, 1106 admits for a class of 3072 is 36 percent. You have to figure the larger number of RD admits because only about half of them will choose Cornell.

I will double check this w/ my H, who has a PhD in engineering and, by the way, is also from India. I have visited your country 4 times!

Thank you for that piece of information. Yes, i indeed did misinterpret the meaning of class. I was unaware of that and was dwelving only in the mathematical part/

Also, I apologise to madam for that minor mistake. I was completely unaware of that. If what HiImAnAlcoholic is right, what u said is completely true. Apologies again. I also wish to apologise for the fact that i got slightly worked up...fact is I easily get tensed/ worked up. And yes...after i calculated the % with the revamped data...and an approximation of a yield of 50% the figure does come close to 18.9% (not exactly, but thats because a lot of approximations have been involved...like the 50% for instance). And I had no idea you were a parent. I apologise for the unruly conversation again.

The sites mentioned in my previous post claim 6,927/28,097 admits/apps, but do not break them down. The IRP class of 2009 profile breaks down the admits as Early (1067), Regular (5554), and Transfer (702). I don't think transfer apps or acceptances are counted in the "final" number .

The site which quotes the class of 2010 admit number as 6,927 also gives 6,384/24,444 admits/apps for the class of 2009, which does not agree with the IRP numbers in the link above (6,621/24,452). So who knows, really.

If 6,927 is right, then either Cornell grossly overestimated the yield when they released that 21% projected admit rate number, or there is something i missed here. Maybe 6,927 includes the whole waitlist? or xfers?

I'm still not sure how the waitlist goes into the calculation of the final number. Maybe people on the waitlist who don't get called up end up as "rejects", and those who are called up count as "admits"?
