Admission rate???

Hey Guys, I know this is quite a random question, but I couldn't help wondering what admission rates on college stats really mean.

On collegeboard profile, it shows that admission rate into Cornell is 25% which is equivalent to USC (25%). I know this sounds ridiculous but does this mean they are as easy to get in?

nope...it doesn't

It has gone down this year to like 22% or something. It is higher than other places because so many people go to Cornell.

That's like saying because -insert safety school here- got 25% admission rate while Cornell got 25% admission rate then they are the same. Noooo sir. (ps obviously not saying usc is simply safety...i just put safety to get my point across)

generally, stronger students apply to Cornell than USC.

yeah, gomestar is right, stronger candidates apply to cornell. Think about it, a lot of people who apply to harvard, yale, and princeton also apply to cornell, b/c it's supposedly a safer choice in the ivies. So whereas HYP accept 10% of the applicants, cornell's 25% likely also include a fair portion of those applicants accepted to HYP.

anyone know what the ED acceptance rate for CALS this year was?

additionally... all the Ivies get roughly around the same number of applicants...
but Cornell has considerably more spots because it is a bigger school. Therefore, admit rate goes up.

Also, remember -- that 25% figure is the percentage for ALL schools, including the professional schools (e.g. Hotel, Industrial, etc.)

For CAS (for example), the % is a bit less than 20%. Not sure about CALS & others.

keep in mind that USC gets the most applications out of all private schools...so by admitting 25%, they are admitting a LOT of people
Cornell, on the other hand, has a more selective group of applicants and admits a more selective group of stuents

im applying to both schools! awesome.

USC is private...? I thought it was the public state school system of South Carolina.

ok, I dunno if ya'll be readin the cornell website, but it said this year there are 3,000 spots for 30,000 freshman applicants. Now I may have only gotten a B in calculus, but I am pretty sure that equals a 10% acceptance rate, yes?

no, Cornell admits around double that ... 3,000 enrolled isn't 3,000 admitted (unless yield is 100%).

You did fine in calc, it's the reading comprehension that's a little off.

lol Madden I went from ur figuring to Gomestars when I read that a couple weeks ago. I was like HOLY **** THATS LIKE TEN PERCENT...pause...oooo ok they don't all come tho. That's why I'm going to Cornell! Quick on my feet! lmao

i think USC is private! unless we're talking about University of South Carolina lol

omg USC is the University of Southern California. and it is a PRIVATE school.

p.s. if anyone here watches football you should know this. i actually don't but come on! its like duke=great school also known for basketball tourney, and USC=football if we're talking about sports.

There are some people who apply to this school as "SAFETY" whereas I applied for this school as "SUPER-REACH."

That's it, I don't wanna live in this crazy world anymore.

Haha Cornell is no safety school for anyone unless you're like..a Nobel Laureate or your dad has bought a library and a stadium at every corner of the university. It's gotten so much tougher nowadays....

so what if you consider yourself a match for Cornell?
