Acceptance/Rejection letter

can someone post the acceptance letter and rejection letter (obviously different people :) )
Thanks

I am very sorry to inform you that it is not possible to offer you admission to the Class of 2012. I wish I were writing to report a different decision, but the competition was so rigorous this year that there were many outstanding young men and women to whom we could not offer places in the class.

Over twenty-seven thousand students, a record number, applied to the entering class. The great majority of the applicants could certainly have been successful here academically, and most candidates presented strong personal and extracurricular credentials as well. The Committee was, therefore, faced with the necessity of choosing a class from a great many more talented and highly qualified students than it had room to admit.

We wish it were possible for us to admit more of our fine applicants, and we understand how difficult the college application process can be for students and their families. While the Committee conducted its deliberations with the utmost care, we know that no one can predict with certainty what an individual will accomplish during college or beyond. Past experience suggests that the particular college a student attends is far less important than what the student does to develop his or her strengths and talents over the next four years.

We very much appreciate the interest you have shown in Harvard College. We hope that you will accept the best wishes of the Committee for success in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

William R. Fitzsimmons
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

Huzzah! Burden off my chest! I am proud of what I have accomplished and I don't feel any lesser for it. I have been looking for a sign as to whether I should continue four more years of Christian education or not and this was definitely it. Congrats to all who got in!

I am delighted to inform you that the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid has voted to offer you a place in the Harvard Class of 2012. Following an old Harvard tradition, a certificate of admission is enclosed. Please accept my personal congratulations for your outstanding achievements.

This year over twenty-seven thousand students, a record number, applied for admission to the entering class. Faced with many more talented and highly qualified candidates than it had room to admit, the Admissions Committee took great care to choose individuals with exceptional character as well as unusual academic and extracurricular strengths. The Committee is convinced that you will make important contributions during your college years and beyond.

Our faculty and students extend a special invitation for you to visit Cambridge over the next few weeks. If you feel a visit would be helpful in making your final college choice, we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. An invitation is enclosed.

We need to know by May 1 whether or not you plan to accept our offer of admission. You may fill out and return the enclosed postcard or you may respond online at https://admapp.admissions.fas.harvard.edu/hanevo/accepted-haNevoLanding.do. If you accept admission for this coming September, further information will be sent to you over the summer by the Freshman Dean's Office.

Each year some admitted students choose to defer entrance for a year and find their many and varied experiences extremely rewarding. If you would like to defer, please tell us about your alternative plans. More information about deferring admission can be found at Harvard College Admissions Office: Prospective Students.

Among the enclosed materials you will find a final School Report Form, which must be completed by your school counselor and returned to us at the end of this academic year. The Committee on Admissions reserves the right to withdraw its offer of admission under certain conditions described on the postcard enclosed for your response.

We have a longstanding commitment to meet the financial needs of our admitted students. No limit has been set on the financial resources devoted to making the College fully accessible to all students of promise, and we have a firm policy of making supportive offers of need-based financial aid. We encourage you to contact us now or at any time during your years here if you have questions or concerns about financial aid or if you have additional information that might be helpful to us in understanding your family’s financial circumstances.

I very much hope that you will decide to join us at Harvard. We have enclosed a statement about Harvard’s opportunities which might be helpful to you in making your college choice. Whatever your decision may be, you have my best wishes for every future success.

Sincerely,

William R. Fitzsimmons

Honestly, this acceptance letter almost made me cry :( (I'm obviously rejected)

Apart from that, I find the first sentence rather strange:

"I am delighted to inform you that the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid has voted to offer you a place in the Harvard Class of 2012."

The Committee on Admissions AND Financial Aid? Why financial aid? What do they have to do with the acceptance? I though it's completely separate, so how can this committee "vote to offer you a place in the Harvard Class of 2012" ? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Anyway, congrats!

lol its just one department of the college, its still needblind

That's the same acceptance letter they've used for the past 4 years, at least.

I know what you mean, Dr. Avrah. Reading this acceptance letter just hurt really bad...

This confirms that Harvard is happy with you taking a voluntary gap year, if you so choose. They know they won't lose you.

Congratulations to this year's admitted students, and commiseration to those who didn't get in.
