Congratulations to your son! My daughter hasn’t decided yet for sure, but is leaning towards Berklee. She will be heading up next week to check out the school, but can’t make it this weekend because of the school musical. I think we will try to catch some of the event on the livestream. Let us know what you think!

My son is deciding between USC and SFCM-classical guitar. Anyone with experiences at either school, pro’s/cons would be greatly appreciated (especially with SFCM). Thank you!

So I don’t know whether or not classical guitar would fall under the purview of the SFCM Music Director, but I can say that Edwin Outwater is one of the most wonderful and talented humans I know and he seems to be doing great things at SFCM. The students I know who are there (mainly for voice) are very happy with SFCM and it’s right in the thick of EVERYTHING music/performance-wise in SF. Great location! Edwin Outwater | SFCM

Hi everyone. Congratulations to all of the students mentioned in this thread - - the talent and choices everyone has are truly phenomenal. And for anyone’s kids hoping to get in off the waitlist anywhere I wish you two things - - (1) the best of luck and (2) continue to love the school you already got into - - if you are dedicated and adventurous, there are no bad choices.

After many visits and a lot of thought and research, my D has accepted her offer to attend NYU Steinhardt in the classical voice track of the vocal performance major! Her admitted students visit day was the deciding factor. She lit up in a way that didn’t happen at the other schools. The combination of a lot of factors went into her decision - - performance and networking opportunities, a more diverse curriculum, faculty (including many adjunct faculty who bring the performance and business world into the classroom), existing student enthusiasm, clicking with other admitted students, the big city atmosphere and NYU’s use of NYC as its laboratory, and not being too far away from family. Thank you to all of the parents on this thread who provided insights and thoughts along the way.

I think the most important part of this experience for my D is how happy she is now. By her applying only to schools that she was excited about, we knew there would be no bad outcome at the end of the process. I hope all of the students of our group here feel empowered, enthusiastic and ecstatic (all “E’s” just like Entertainment and Education!) - - everyone has a great future at the many great colleges and conservatories listed in this thread and there are so many exciting things to come over the next four years and beyond. The world is your oyster!

I know it’s probably unlikely to happen but it would be great to see periodic updates from this group on our kids’ experiences and whether their choices lived up to expectations. And most importantly if they are happy and fulfilled!

And special thanks to Beverly for continually updating the information we all provide!
