Acceptance to the school itself

Thanks, cawrd! you know I love your support and friendship and K will have incredible things coming her way, as well!

I wonder will everyone get a call if accepted. My son hasn't heard anything as of yet accepted or rejected( He did get to talk to them in detail in Chicago)

That's so exciting! sualabama, would you mind saying when and where your daughter auditioned?

Checked the website and found this today...

As of 2/26/2008, we have reached a decision regarding your application. You will receive this decision in the mail in within two weeks.

BwayRocks: When did you audition. Good luck on the results. When I checked my sons statues it said "we are still viewing your application.

My D auditioned on Feb 2nd at the NYC Unifieds...

I read here that someone got a call on the Monday (25th) and no call here so I assume its a rejection...
Good luck with your S... when did he audition?

It has been mentioned before how busy the admission dept is at PSU, but for what it's worth my D's online page says "we are still reviewing your application". So again, there is probably no way to know what the online messages mean. They could update those alphabetically, or backwards, or by SSN"...

First of all congrats with your D!!
I'm one of those realists who prefers to think its no and then when its no its no surprise but if it happens to be yes its great :)
Maybe previous year applicants know whether a comment like "decision in the mail" means something specific or could mean anything...

On the actual admission status page, " a decision in the mail" at PSU means nothing specific (at least it hasn't in the past). Everyone sees that notice when the decision has been mailed. It says two weeks, but expect more like a few days unless you really live a long way away.
As to MT acceptance, last year my daughter was accepted for MT. She did not receive a phone call. She did receive a separate letter of acceptance from the MT department in addition to the huge PSU acceptance envelope. She auditioned on a Friday or Saturday (can't remember which schools did which at this point, but whatever is typical of PSU) and received her huge PSU packet in the mail in less than a week with MT acceptance in it. The following week, she received a letter from the MT department with acceptance and departmental scholarship information in it. I called with a question and was told that she really was supposed to receive the MT letter first, but the way their system works, they send a list of students to the admission department that they would like to accept, then admissions sends out acceptances to those academically qualified. I think because our D had applied in early September, and was well qualified for PSU academically, but didn't audition until late January, as soon as admissions got the MT list from her audition date, admissions sent her packet. So that is how it beat the actual departmental letter to our house.
Hope that all made sense.
I wouldn't necessarily read anything into whether or not you have had a phone call. If there was a "callback" or "interview" on the audition day, you are at least in the runnning. Maybe this year everyone who is accepted is getting a phone call. I just don't know. But the online status for PSU doesn't mean anything about the MT decision, unlike some other schools (UM for example will have that message if you are NOT being accepted and a congratulations message if you are, at least in past years).

That information is very helpful, nydancemom. I am in the same boat as BwayRocks and I have the same fears. It would be so great to be pleasantly surprised with an acceptance :)

Thanks very much for the detailed explanation nydancemom.
I'll change my 90-10 expectation into a 50-50 :)
One would think that they follow a system with all the kids they're accepting but apparently not.

If I may ask, did your D end up going here? and if so, how is she liking the program?

BwayRocks: My son auditioned on Feb 4 in Chicago. He thought it was a good audition. He was asked to sit down, and they did ask him several questions. What about you?

BwayRocks and Momsonfaith,
Good luck to your kids! I hope you get good news!
My daughter did not end up at PSU. She is a freshman MT at Elon and is loving it. Honestly though, PSU was a very top choice for her and I think she could have been very happy there. She just felt that Elon was the place for her. The best "fit" I guess, which is just so hard to quantify in any rational way. We felt extremely fortunate that she had several wonderful choices last year, and has landed in a terrific place for her.
I'm wishing all the best for all of the MT2012 kids who are braving the audition circuit this year!

For what is is worth, my D is a freshman MT at PSU. Like dancermom's D, she applied early September, actually Labor day week-end. She auditioned at the very last campus audition, which corresponds to last week-end, and got her MT letter of acceptance a year ago today, Thursday( well, yesterday now!). The big acceptance packet from the University came over a week later, and the scholarship letter within a week after that! We never had time to even check her status. Her phone calls did not happen until after she was admitted and began a correspondence with Cary. I do not know who got calls last year, but she got in without one if that helps. Good luck, those letters should be arriving any day now.

I asked someone who has already been accepted this year and did not receive a call, just a letter in the mail. I think the UM system has also changed, because I think I heard their online notification is also generic...but I could be wrong about that one.

Momsonfaith... my D does not tell me much but from what I gather it was a similar scenario as your S... Did a good audition and was asked a few questions afterwards.
My D did auditions on 3 weekends and in each case she did well on day 1 and not on day 2.. That was kind of confirmed as she got into to a school she did on day 1 and rejected from a school she did on day 2. Not sure if there is a lesson to learn from this but thought I'd throw it in...

Anyone heard from Penn State that auditioned in Chicago on Feb 4?

momsonfaith, a little bit upthread, PSUcat posted that the head of the program, Cary Libkin said that, for the most part, they are waiting until at least the end of February to make decisions on all the kids that they saw at Unifieds. Read from the beginning and you can get it from the horse's mouth. I guess this means that kids won't be hearing until at least next week, if not for a few weeks. Best of luck to your son or daughter!

(Sualabama's amazing D is an exception to this, as were a few others who also posted that they have already received word. Congrats to them!)

Hey everyone!
I am currently a student in MT at Penn State. Congrats to everyone whos been accepted, and to those who haven't heard- the letters really should be coming in the mail soon. Probably in the next couple of days. The last audition was last Saturday and Cary said on Monday that they were planning to send out letters this week.

I know how hard the waiting is- but it shouldn' t be too much longer!

Thanks, clover25. It was nice of you to take the time to post. I know everyone here appreciates it!
