Acceptance to the school itself

So my D got her envelope from PSU today... Its a 8.5x11 envelope and it does contain a letter and some brochure that I guess is around 20 pages but since she's not here I guess I won't know if this is a good sign or not... unless someone else out there can tell me what to expect :)... ya I know I'm sick, sorry :)

BwayRocks; OPEN IT. (Just Kidding) Sounds like good news!!!! Can't wait to hear the good news.

hahahaha... I opened it and put on there momsonfaith said it was ok :)
I'd like to stay in good terms with her so I'm afraid I will have to wait 1 hour... She's still 17 so driiving has to be over by 1230am...

BwayRocks I know what you mean. I dare not open my S letters when they arrive. It's their Joy you want to remember. I'll be waiting for your post.

I called her and gave her the option to get the news but she preferred waiting for 6 hours so yes we have to respect that.

It was a rejection.. apparently the brochure that came with the letter was about the other majors they offer. Apparently she knew that those getting a package like that were rejected, the ones accepted receive a letter first... or a big package from the school...

BwayRocks; I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm praying for good news to come your way. keep the faith.

Very kind of you momsonfaith! Penn State was not meant to be for my D, thats how I see it. She will end up where is she is meant to end up, I think that's probably the case for many of the applicants.

BwayRocks, add my voice to those who are so sorry to hear that that fat envelope was not an acceptance! I hope she is not taking it too hard. This is such a difficult process ..... for the kids, mainly, but us parents too. Hang in there, everyone!

Aw thanks very much NotMamaRose. She was ok. This was not a school she was planning on auditioning at nor has she visited or auditioned there but she met someone who recently graduated there and was encouraged to audition, so she was going into it kinda sight unseen... so she does not know what she is potentially missing... It is indeed a difficult process and I'm sure a lot of us will be sweating in March :) but that's the nature of the business. My D has been doing this for many many moons and had decided that even with no school acceptance she was still pursuing MT because this is all she knows and all she's ever done outside of school and she does not have any other interests...

BwayRocks, your D sounds determined and passionate and very, very focused and that is the kind of person it takes (the experts say!) to succeed in this business, so kudos to her. I think everyone involved in the audition process acknowledges that it is far from perfect, and that schools make mistakes and pass over very talented kids who would be good fits for their programs. However, auditions are the only system these schools really have to fill their classes, so we all have to live with it! :) Congrats to your D for being so mature and centered. I feel confident that she will end up somewhere perfect for her and where her talents and commitment will be nurtured.

I've copied below part of a post from DrJohn on the Otterbein site that reiterates the reality of the space issues of these programs and the fact that they do indeed have to reject many very talented kids as well as the fact that they "miss" seeing some of the talent that is there. My D was rejected from a school in November that everyone saw as a safety school for her. There is just no making sense of this crazy audition process or the "why's" of a students acceptance or rejection.

I DO know that all these young people are courageous, determined, creative and wonderful, and they will all thrive and grow in their lives wherever they end up!

I don't know how to block it in, but below is a small part of one of Dr. JOhn's great posts!.....

"Most students unfortunately will be told that we don't have a place for them. Does this mean that they don't have the talent to pursue theatre? Absolutely not. It just means that we didn't have room--or that we missed seeing the talent that was there, as we obviously did with UAmom's daughter. UAMom, please congratulate your d. on her callback to the Guthrie. It's one of the best BFA Acting programs in the country."

For those of you still waiting for your letter, my S got his acceptance letter today-same fat letter as described earlier but this one said congratulations on the outside. Good Luck everyone!

Fantastic, Jacksdad!!!!!!!!!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS TO Jacksdads S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful!!!!! Congrats Jack? and Jacksdad!

Thanks so much. My S-not Jack!-is walking on air!

Does anyone know if all of the acceptance letters have been sent out by now? Also, are all of the waitlist letters also sent out?

I think that it*would be totally appropriate to call Paula at the MT office and ask her if you have not received any correspondence at all. Have you checked the admission site on the web?

My daughter just recieved the letter from the theatre department saying she was on the waitlist yesterday. She was very happy because she had recieved a letter a week ago from the school itself saying she was waitlisted for main campus and not mentioning anything about MT acceptance or rejection- we all kinda thought that meant she had been rejected from the program itself.
