Acceptances: Celebrate, discuss, support here

Just wanted to congratulate all of the students and their families on all of these acceptances!

Zoosergirl got her first acceptance on Saturday. From SUNY Oneonta. It's so nice to have one under her belt, even if it's not THE ONE. We weren't expecting any answers yet for a week or so, so when the mail came on Saturday there was a small envelope and she handed it to me and said "Will you see what they need?" So I opened it and started reading and had to read it twice to comprehend. No fanfare, but it was such a relief! I didn't expect how it would hit me thought. As soon as it sank in I just cried like a baby. I guess it's really true, huh? Zoosergirl is going to go away next fall.

zoosermom, A BIG CONGRATULATIONS! You reminded me about my H's reaction last year. When the first acceptance came in my H called his family to tell them that his son is going to college! This was knee jerk reaction, although he knew his son was going, the paper stating that he was accepted made it a reality. I remember the thrill in his voice like it was yesterday!

Thanks Northeastmom! It's funny that you mention your H because I didn't think mine would have much to say, but he was stunned. In a good way.

So do you and zoosergirl like Oneonta? I don't know much about it, although I know at least one alum. I do have a relative who has graduated from another SUNY school. He is very successful today.

Northeastmom, she's not sure. zoosergirl has one top school that we won't hear about till March but that we can't afford without help, so . . . She's been thinking a lot about SUNY Plattsburgh because they have a five-year master's in her hoped-for field and she's gotten a lot of advice that such a program will be priceless to her later on. I'm just glad right now that she has something because she's the kind of kid who will always think "no college would ever want me."

zoosermom, My son did not hear from the school that he now attends until March either. I sent a PM to you.

w00t!!! Just got into Bard College from their brilliant IDP program. I am very excited.

cptofthehouse & weenie: I was originally going to sit on D's Penn State acceptance until she made a decision, thinking that sending in an acceptance was making a similar kind of commitment as Early Decision. But I was worried knowing that Penn State's University Park campus housing was stretched to the limit. So I'm really glad that I raised the issue on a thread in the Penn State subforum, and some experienced CC parents set me straight. I sent the acceptance out this morning, and as soon as we receive the package from Ohio State, I'll jump on that, too.

It's been really exciting for D to receive those two acceptances. Now we just have to wait for the remaining five to arrive in March.:)

WashDad junior just had his first acceptance today -- by phone and not mail, though. It's good to get the first one out of the way...

My son got accepted into Dartmouth! I'm so happy for him.

WashDad, koolcrud and momofrower: Awesome news from all three of you. Congrats to your kids!

Is that the Bard program where you show up and you learn in that day whether you are accepted?

Dartmouth, wow! Yours is the first one here into an Ivy, I think. Congrats, that is great.

Washdad, congrats, now you can really sit back and relax in your new chair. The next round in SA is on you :)

koolcrud, congrats. great news

momofrower,

congrats. welcome to the family (both CC & Dartmouth)

Me too! Daughter going to Dartmouth!

So, the ED acceptances are coming in, it sounds like. First the rollings, now the EDs. Exciting times, congrats to all! Especially the ED folks and all others who are hearing from their definite first choice schools. The struggle is over. Bring on the Twin XL sheets and reservations for Parent Weekend!

My son was accepted at Columbia.

And so it begins....

I know. It is such a life phenomenon. Amazing to see. Congrats to all. Figure out the cellphone plan and bank account now. If you don't have electronic funds transfer, e-banking, etc. get it now....:)

Our daughter had good news at 2:00 a.m. (we're overseas) last night with an e-mail accpetance from Vassar. She is very excited. Her statistics were sort of borderline on the GPA, which we had been told they value highly, so we weren't sure of her accpetance. GPA averages B+ 9th grade and half of 10th, then went up to A to A- for the rest. Class rank at tough school at bottom of top 40%. SAT math 750, verbal 700, writing 720. SAT II bio 640, US Hist 690 Eng. Lit 750. Three AP scores: 4,4,5. Very, very strong treacher recs and passion to biology demonstrated since toddlerhood through summer courses, research, etc. She has learning disabilities and ADHD. We're very proud of all she has accomplished and feel Vassar will be a great fit where she can do well academically while still being happy and having a life.

Thank you everyone here for your great advice.
