Class of 2023 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

As the good news has started coming in, I am recreating the Big Thread where parents, students, or delighted observers can come and share their good news.

This is also the place to discuss both happy and disappointing news, and to support each other in the best manner of a community like this one.

Mods, Please pin this thread.
Thank you.

Congrats to all who have heard positive decisions!
We’re still waiting. I think my S is as calm about it as his outward appearance, but it could also be a ruse. I, however, am starting to even annoy myself with how often I check his portals.

Okay, here are S19’s results:

Applied:

  • Lebanon Valley College (rolling)
  • Loyola University Maryland (EA)
  • Penn State University (EA, Main Campus/University Park with Altoona branch as alternate, the favorite)
  • Shippensburg University (rolling)
  • Susquehanna University (EA, the second favorite)

Accepted:

  • Lebanon Valley College (merit)
  • Penn State University Park (in-state)
  • Shippensburg University (in-state)
  • Susquehanna University (merit)

No decision yet, doesn’t care about, and only applied because his parents are alums who did not even force him to apply and are now so happy they had to fill out the CSS just for their alma mater that gave them an NPC of full pay:

  • Loyola University Maryland

Attending: Penn State University Park

Congratulations for being done @InfiniteWaves ! Sorry to hear about having had to fill out the CSS

@ChaosParent23 We all have OPC (Obsessive Portal Checking) syndrome. :))

S19’s results
Applied:
NC State (my alma mater) EA
Case Western Reserve EA
SUNY Binghamton EA
College of Wooster EA
Furman University EA
Virginia Tech EA

All applications are done.

Accepted:
SUNY Bingamton w/ President’s Scholarship

Still waiting to hear back from the rest.

The waiting has been more difficult for me than my S, I think!

He applied to 5 schools, all EA, with notification dates from now to Feb 15 (though I hope he isn’t waiting that long). I was indulging my OPC syndrome this evening and saw his Eckerd portal had been updated with an acceptance! This was a bit of a surprise as it appeared they were going to notify by snail mail, but it came up on the portal first. No email either. Hoping the official packet did not get mis-delivered or lost…

Of the other 4, he expects one to notify around the 15th and one end of next week.

Congratulations to everyone with acceptances and sending many good vibes to everyone still waiting.

Congratulations @bearpanther !! <:-P
It pays to OPC ! :))

S19:

Applied:
Alabama
Clemson
Virginia Tech

Accepted:
Alabama
Clemson

Won’t hear from VT until February. Waiting for information on Honors Colleges and scholarships for everyone but AL.

I’m extremely impressed by those of you whose children have managed to apply to lots of schools.

Congratulations @brentwoodmom ! <:-P

The Santa Clara EA results are out last night now for class of 2023

Approx 36 hours to 5 days until ED decisions come out. With no hard deadline & utter radio silence from the school, I’m getting very nervous! Even my son, who until yesterday was calm, is starting to freak a little.

D19 is in at her one and only, Parsons School of Design at the New School. Nice merit award of $24,000. She visited a lot of schools and considered still more, but she decided to send only the one application, and it worked out perfectly.

Congrats to everyone else with positive results, and to those still waiting, hang in there.

Hi Everyone, I’m new to this discussion. But I wanted to just vent. I am so nervous, my son will be checking this afternoon for his ED school. I will be in a meeting with a client, and he will be tutoring someone. He told me he will need to check during the tutoring session. Of course his friend and I said, don’t do that, but he said it would be a good experience either way for his student to see outcomes. And this way he can’t cry. Anyway, I’m so surprised so many of you parents have access to your child’s portals! My son is in complete charge, I don’t even know his gmail password, thank god. I would not want to have that kind of access because I definitely would peek. So I’m going to take a deep breath, go for a work-out, then go to work. Good luck to all of you in the same boat!

Oh how I wish my DD had gone with EA! She missed the deadline at all but one of her schools. We’re not even thinking about getting results yet. I’m not even sure all of her recommendations and transcripts have been sent–gotta remind her to check that!

Hi , my son has applied to OSU engineering, International student status, has anyone with this status receive admission notice?

We’re in Michigan. My son applied like this:
in-state (most realistic):

University of Michigan (EA)
Michigan State University (Rolling)

OOS (ED):

Johns Hopkins (ED)

the rest are OOS RD:

MIT (missed EA because of a late LOR)
Brown
Cornell
Vanderbilt
Northeastern
Case Western (direct med)
U of Cincinnati (direct med)

Early results are in:
accepted - Johns Hopkins, U of Michigan (too early to know if Honors) and MSU Honors, nice merit scholarship.

JHU was binding, so won’t know about the others

I feel for our kids and feel for parents as well - everyone has a life path and today no one can predict admissions no matter what stats you have - we just hope it works out for our kids - anyway we applied to Case, Santa Clara and University of Michigan and were accepted - so my feel is it was kid hard work and god blessings as we see many brilliant kids with higher stats still waiting- hope everyone gets what they want…for parents we just encourage our kids that there will be good days and lost ones too…

I share my daughter’s story to illustrate that are many colleges for everyone. She is an average student, a below average standardized test taker. (SAT under 1000)

She does have a 3.7 unweighted/3.8 weighted GPA, and she cares about her grades but I haven’t seen her slaving away in high school, as her older sister did. (D19 has had no AP classes and her honors classes are very few, in American Sign Language (her world language choice),in half year science and social studies electives and in film (her intended major). Not in core subjects.

She applied to 12 colleges and we have heard back from 11, all acceptances, 6 with merit money, 2 with significant merit (don’t qualify for need based). The last school will respond on 2/1.

She has committed to Temple University as a film major. No merit money/OOS/full pay/went test Optional

Her other acceptances are as follows:
Bowling Green State University in Ohio (we live in New jersey), merit money/submitted low SAT scores
Kutztown University (Pa state school) with merit money/submitted low SAT scores
Arcadia University with significant merit money ($19,000) no SATs
Albright College no merit money (No SATs)
University of New Hampshire with Director’s scholarship (submitted low SATs)
Montclair State University (NJ) no merit money/selective film department (No SATs)
Quinnipiac University $20,000 Dean’s scholarship (no SATs)
The State University of New York at Purchase with merit money (no SATs)
SUNY Oswego no merit money submitted SATs
Indiana University of Pa no merit money submitted SATs
waiting on Ramapo (NJ)

Granted these are not highly selective schools, but some have solid name recognition, at least in our area. I am pleasantly surprised.

@srians - So true! I am grateful that my kid is healthy and has had his share of luck. I know of a couple of kids with health issues that work with the school to graduate hs, but not sure yet if it’s possible. One is a talented athlete with many offers from great schools. Such a good kid, but he got sick and missed too many classes. Worst part, he still doesn’t have a firm diagnosis. The last of his parents worry is college admission. Good luck everyone, happy Holidays!
