Thank you collegemoneyman
Goodluck2019 any word yet ?
I just got my letter, accepted to School of Communications, BA in Film, Video and Interactive Media with the Trustee Scholarship for $23,000 a year. Good luck to everyone else!!!
Got in today for Political Science with a 21k/yr Trustee Scholarship. Applied sometime in November.
UW GPA of 2.9 (yep)
1990 single score SAT
29 single score ACT
Took AP US History junior year, now in AP Gov and AP Euro for my senior year
Went to one of the better public high schools in the country (top 25 I want to say)
2 year job of lifeguarding/swim instructor at my local YMCA
Participated in the YMCA Model UN program junior and now senior year
Also did Youth and Government program junior and now senior year
Got confirmed at my local church
Tons of service hours, helped out a lot at my food pantry in particular
Finally I was the recipient of a life-saving liver transplant in 7th grade and missed practically the entire year
My GPA is crap because I miss a lot of school and whatnot but I like to think my SAT and ACT scores show I’m not dumb as a brick and I tried to help out when I could. Anyway, good luck to everyone else and I was certainly not expecting a scholarship especially for that much. For reference I also got deferred from Tulane, rejected from Boston College and accepted in to George Mason (no scholarship… yet?)
Health Science major here!
Accepted today into Nursing! $21,000 trustee scholarship!
“I was accepted today with a 19,000 scholarship…and just about everyone else I know has been accepted…are they offering everyone a substantial “discount?”” @collegeadvice2
Same here, everyone I know got offered a discounted rate ($15K-$25K “scholarship”) so maybe no one actually enrolls otherwise? Still pricey imho but it is a safety school and I read on other threads that schools at this level often do discount pretty regularly to get the enrollment.
My son was accepted into the 5 year Masters Occupational Therapy program with a $19K scholarship. Very exciting. The campus was fabulous and I know a few graduates who loved the school. My concern was that the health ed building was a few miles away from the main campus, and I wonder how that will affect his time there as he would be dorming.
Why don’t these lower tier colleges just reduce their tuition/board prices? Discounting and calling it a “Merit Scholarship” does not seem fair…I know, I know the world is not fair! LOL! But really, lots of families are trying to figure out how much they can afford and it seems that it is becoming a contest to see who can negotiate more. I have heard that Quinnipiac’s medical school is really expensive to run and they have a huge NCAA title 9 penalty to pay…almost $10 million dollars…not sure if this hurt reputation or that they are located in the hinterlands…hardly an exciting place to be for 4 long years! Good luck everyone !
I’m choosing to ignore the above post. Strikes me as an off-topic post intended to inflame those of us who are interested in Quinnipiac and know of the school’s many attributes (which include NOT being in the ‘hinterlands’ but in a vibrant suburb between two of the world’s greatest cities).
Sorry, but when I went to visit the school this fall I did not think that Hamden was a “vibrant suburb”…the town’s nickname is “Sleeping Giant” and the main road leading up to the school was filled with strip malls of bagel places and banks. Suggesting that it’s located between two of the world’s greatest cities is also misleading…Boston is TWO hours away and NYC is 1.5 hours…hardly close by…the purpose of this website is to share honest information and I was just sharing my opinion and trying to figure out WHY they have to discount so much yet call it a “Merit Scholarship”
It’s a nice school if you want to be out in a rural area but honestly, most of us want to be in a “vibrant” location…I’m probably going to Boston.
My daughter received merit but her friend did not receive any merit when she was accepted. Qu ended up being cheaper for us than all her other schools except in state, so that was a perk. My D definitely did not want a city environment and loves the beauty on and surrounding the campus. We loved the sleepy town too! There is so much to do on campus that D has to turn away stuff…even a sorority… too much going on! The shuttle takes them to misc stores and she carpools to a really great church. They do also go to nyc for events. But we totally get that it might be boring for some people, as you can’t walk out to great restaurants and fun stuff that a city environment can give you…definitely has to feel like home!
Regarding the med building…I’m not sure about other programs but my D will not be at that campus until junior year and she has to have a car for clinicals by then, so it will be an easy drive. it’s very close to the dorms. I know the shuttle goes to the dorms up the hill but not sure about the med building yet. I did hear talk that they were rethinking that.
Clearly @collegeadvice2 doesn’t like Quinnipiac and that is his/her prerogative. I find it odd, however, that he/she feels compelled to continue to return to share his/her dislike.
Plus, there’s the little problem of truth and consistency.
For the record, @collegeadvice2 wrote on this exact thread on 12/21/2014:
“I was accepted today with a 19,000 scholarship…and just about everyone else I know has been accepted…are they offering everyone a substantial “discount?””
Yet, on 1/3/15 collegeadvice2 wrote on a thread under nursing major/Admissions This Year:
“Quinnipiac: I did not apply because nursing courses don’t start until Junior year…”
I wish you luck at Simmons in Boston but respectfully request that you no longer share your feelings about Quinnipiac. They’ve been made clear, if not consistent.
Do you work for Quinnipiac? You seem overly protective of the school when we are all trying to share and learn information. I am very sorry if I am upsetting you with sharing my perspective.
Sorry I made a mistake --I applied to 14 nursing schools and got mixed up…I did apply and was accepted with a great scholarship which I truly appreciate. Many of my friends at my school did as well and everyone that I know has received a substantial merit scholarship, including non-nursing majors. Many of the Boston area nursing schools start nursing courses in either freshman or sophomore year…that is the MAJOR reason why I don’t expect to enroll at Quinnie…and still not sure where I will attend. Good Luck to everyone !
Hi @collegeadvice2 no worries from me on your opinions! We absolutely love love love Quinnipiac but everyone has to find their fit and Boston sounds very exciting for you! We loved northeastern…even though it was a city…but D did not get accepted and it would have been too expensive for us in the long run. Nursing Classes starting in junior year was the only negative we had with qu as well but we found that she takes special bio classes which are tailored for nursing…they talk about solutions with iv’s and stuff. I would still have liked to see an intro class in nursing in the curriculum.
Good luck in your and everyone else’s college search adventures! I know most people end up loving whatever college they choose. Qu was a perfect fit for us and D only knew one person that transferred out so far. another person transferred in to her dorm from a FIorida college and so far loves it. as long as we’re all happy and a job is at the end of the line!
Accepted today with a 19k scholarship for the Journalism program!
I have a 3.4 GPA and I got a 2000 on the SAT. Throughout high school, I have taken 5 or 6 AP classes, a couple honors courses, and I have a lot of extracurriculars.
Will definitely be considering Quinnipiac, but still waiting on 9 or 10 more decisions.
@brucemag, not sure whether or not you work for QU, but @collegeadvice2 is hardly the first one on CC to comment that there isn’t much to do if you go to QU. Toads Place (bar) in New Haven is one of the main things students do on the weekends, QU provides shuttles. But the Yale students have a lot of problems with QU students.

@sjillian15 I’m a current student at QU and I’ve never had a problem with any of the Yale students, or heard of anyone who has, in fact I enjoy being able to meet other students from nearby Universities (Yale, Southern Conn, Sacred Heart, etc)! I’ve always found enough to do on the weekends on campus and off campus. The shuttle goes all over in Hamden, North Haven and New Haven providing many options of places to go. I love it here
Lol my daughter is so busy with on campus activities she hasn’t even been to toads yet! I think it depends on what a person likes to do…if a person likes to be occupied with clubs, sports, community service stuff, sorority/frat events, study abroad, or on site activities, there are plenty of things to do. If a person wants more off campus activities besides hiking and basic stuff, I could see them wanting a different environment. So far everyone that we have come in contact with in our area and there who ends up at Quinnipiac seems to love it. So I think by the end of college searches, people learn what appeals to them most and ends up there (hopefully!!). Best wishes to all!!
