I'm sure many of you have been offered admissions into many great schools. So, I was wondering how many of you have received your acceptances and are now troubled by the daunting process of selecting which school you want to spend the next four years at? Why are you choosing that specific school?

I first made an academic cut. Schools that I feel are not necessarily academically qualified (like ones used for safeties) are cut. Then I will make the quality of life/fit cut, which means removing schools I won't be comfortable at because social environment is not what I want. Afterwards, I will choose from the remaining schools based on cost and financial aid.

This process isn't easy.

I am not at all troubled, I know that I will go to Cornell. Even if I am accepted into Brown from the waitlist, I will still most likely go to Cornell (unless Brown dishes out some serious cash). Some people believe that the prestige of a school doesn't matter, but I believe that while it is not the most important thing, it is still worth taking into consideration.

Of course, I took a lot of other things into consideration. Cornell has a work hard play hard atmosphere which is great, they have HEOP which will definately help me to graduate and obtain a great education, they are an ivy-league, I believe that I would fit in better, computer science is my major and they are the ivy with the BEST computer science program, they are giving good financial aid, and they are very supportive of minorities. In fact, they even have an all African American dorm named "Ujamaa".

For me, it's a no brainer.

^But, unfortunately, some people don't have such a situation. I second None's process.

^That is true.

Let me break down what I said easier:
There are the things I considered:

Financial Aid- are they giving me a great package

Support for Minorities- will i feel awkard being a black female or will i feel right at home?

Prestige/Respectability- will people know the school if i say that i attend it

Location- is the college in a major city, if not, will there be lots to do anyways?

Will I fit in?- WIll I feel like I am a complete outsider, will I be happy?

Do they have a great program for my major?

Are they all work, no play?

Just some things to consider!

Of course, try to visit as many schools as you can. Visit www.theprincetonreview.com or www.collegeboard.com and look up the rankings and etc for some of the schools you are considering. I think that they might help as well!

Good Luck! :-D
