I too find it hard to understand how a situation like this could happen, let alone be resolved this easily. I know that in every communication I had with my ED school, every time I mentioned that I was applying ED, they asked, "You know what ED means, right?" In all the directions in the application the agreement I was making was very clear. In the confirmation letter, the binding part was very clear. In short, ED is obvious.

Was your friend using the common app, since he was checking a box? I do not believe that the website will allow multiple ED selections, since I began apps there myself.

And were I your friend, I would be upset that you had posted this in such a public place.

He can't be identified from the info on the site and I was just curious ..and UVa isn't a common app school so it couldn't have been common app. Anyway, Its not really my business so I'm just gonna drop the subject, I hope it all works out for the best for him cuz I think it was an honest mistake on his part.

Come on . Don't try to play us. Post one clearly states that YOU told him it was improper and that he didn't listen. This whole thread has a stench about it. I accept that it is possible the Dad of the scoundrel heard about the message board and freaked, and now we have some less than intelligently performed sandcrab tactics being deployed by the OP. I believe it is more likely a farce from the beginning , possibly a junior running an idea up the flagpole. And as to your buddy being "invisible" on this board. Don't be so sure.

Unless this person has a ton of money, would he have had to fill out a FAFSA for financial aid purposes. and since most FAFSAs for ED are all due around the same time I would think that a flag would be raised in the financial aid office when the FAFSA had 2 schools listed. Unless he managed to cirucmvent that also which would mean what he did was intentional, not a mistake.

Since you said that your friend did not file common, the ED box on the UVA application is pretty hard to miss especially since it is boxed off, with the words EARLY DECISION AGREEMENT written in large letters.

FIRST-YEAR APPLICANTS ONLY (To apply under the binding Early Decision Plan, read, sign, and date this agreement)

If you wish to apply for first-year admission under the binding Early Decision Plan, you MUST check the Early Decision box on the front of this form and read, sign, and date the following agreement. If you do not sign and date this agreement, we will assume that you have chosen not to apply under the Early Decision Plan.

I have read the Application Instructions regarding the Early Decision Plan and hereby apply for admission under its conditions. I agree that, if offered admission under Early Decision, I will withdraw all applications I may have filed with other colleges and universities and enroll at the University of Virginia in Fall 2005. I have discussed this decision with my parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and with my guidance counselor.

In addition there is an Honor reminder that states:

HONOR REMINDER
All applicants sign the following pledge when they submit the Basic Application: I certify that the statements contained in all parts of this application are true to the best of my knowledge. I authorize the Committee on Admission to make reasonable inquiry as to the accuracy of statements contained in any part of this application. I realize that knowing or deliberate
falsification in any part of this application may result in my being denied admission or dismissed after admission by the Dean of Admission. This pledge also applies to the First- Year Supplement.

Character is who you are when no one is watching. If this person can do something so grimmy, it will not be long before he does something grimmy again and will be caught
