Accepted off waitlist...help!

My son was accepted off of the waitlist today. We never visited LMU but in his mind he had really wanted to go. However, after a grueling back and forth between Boston U and Chapman, we finally decided on Chapman because of the small class sizes and the computer science department dean was really personable and we felt he would learn alot and also have good connections to the industry.

Does anyone have any feedback on their impression of LMU and/or specifics to the LMU Computer Science department? They aren’t giving us much time…we got the message about getting off waitlist friday afternoon and they are saying we have until Monday to decide. They aren’t offering on-campus tours this week because of finals so the best I can do is visit (we need to travel 6 hours there) and do a self tour but we wouldn’t have any opportunity to talk to anyone. Thoughts?

My son will be graduating from the ME program next weekend. Not sure if you hace specific questions, but for our family, the diesity was a plus, and the accepted students day, our first visit, was very attractive. Expensive, but all in all a pretty good experience. In general their enginerrng programs are small. My son does not have a job lined up, but he says all his friends do.

Have visited both LMU and chapman. Don’t know much about the differences for your particular major. But in general The colleges are quite similar. And many students try to decide between both if them.
The 2 differences that I noticed most is that

  1. Lmu campus is so incredibly gorgeous. Immaculate, amazing views, etc.
  2. LMU has Jesuit component, which I don’t know much about, but has 2 religious class requirements and the college does seem to stress good character traits such as service, etc. Although I am not religious, I did like the character components which come thru.

Excluding factors relating to major, I slightly prefer LMU because of the 2 items above.

Our son was accepted to Chapman as well as Loyola. Both are good schools (husband is an alumni of Chapman). From a campus perspective, LMU simply can’t be beat in terms of aesthetics. Can’t speak to CS program, but do know when my husband was there, sometimes in the small programs, they can’t offer classes needed to graduate and I know Chapman had students take classes at neighboring schools to get requirements needed to graduate. This was a long time ago, but our experience. With all being said and done, our son will be attending LMU in the fall. Good luck to you and your son with this decision!

Can’t go wrong. My son is completing his first year at Chapman and loves it. Many friends whose kids are at LMU and it is also great. Kids transfer between the two also. Best of luck with the decision!
