Accepted on "terms and conditions"

Hi all,

I hope this hasn’t been asked/or talked about already. I didn’t see it on the forums…

I was recently accepted via the Cal Poly Portal for Fall 2013 admission on “terms and conditions”, meaning I have to pass my current classes (etc…), and of course that makes sense but I still feel paranoid that I haven’t officially been accepted? Do any of you who have been accepted have the same “terms and conditions” thing on your portal? I want to be happy and celebrate and tell all my friends and family and plan my next move for my upcoming academic year (regarding housing, etc…) but am not sure? Will I be receiving a physical acceptance letter soon? Am I being paranoid? It was my 3rd time applying and I FINALLY got accepted so that might explain my paranoid feeling… I need reassurance, please!

All UCs, and most colleges in the country, accept a student Conditionally.

For example, for UC Berkeley, an admitted student must complete the Sr. year with an unweighted B average for each semester taken individually, and complete all classes with a C grade or better.

For UCLA, same as Berkeley except the B average is for both semesters combined, meaning a 3.3 for Fall semester may be balanced by a 2.7 in Spring semester.

Lastly, all colleges want to know if the prospective classes a student lists for spring semester are in fact enrolled in. Sometimes a college will have a point system that rewards the number of core classes a student takes, so not actually enrolling in a core class for Spring semester of Sr. year can change the point total for a student. Cal Poly uses a point system and it does affect the admissions decision…

Yes, all Cal Poly admissions portals say the same thing.

@DunninLA

hi. i am missing one core course, business calculus for the spring. does this mean i could get rejected because my points are lower than anticipated points?

^ it will probably not make enough difference to jeopardize your acceptance, but you are better off letting Admissions know now, rather than in June, so that in the worst case scenario, you can pursue your other options.

@DunninLA

how do you let the admission know? do i just call them, and inform them of my spring course update?

i am sorry if i come across clueless.

much thanks, dun.

^ yes, you would call admissions (their number is on the website), and ask an admissions advisor for instructions. i believe they would ask you for an updated unofficial school transcript to see what you did first semester Sr. year, then reevaluate if you still have enough points for admission.

It is possible that if you don’t have enough points, they would give you the opportunity to take that course over summer.

thank you. they just told me to submit the transcript, but warned me about business calculus course because it’s such a crucial course for transfer-student. however, they will look into my transcript and evaluate, and then let me know the details of the outcome.

i really, really hope that they’ll let me in. as of now, i am going to rule this acceptance as a rejection. according to slo website, slo does not accept summer course anyway, so i am in trouble. ;(

thank you once again. i appreciate your time!
