Is anyone going to the open house on April 12?

Peabodie, your D should check out the facebook group Dickinson Class of 2012--this was started by kids who were accepted ED I and now has about 250 members. There is probably discussion there about the April 12 open house--and your d could chat with some kids who are definitely going.

Our D is VERY excited, and we are excited for her!

I think she joined that the day she got her acceptance letter, but I, of course, am not allowed to look at it. She doesn't mind my presence on CC, but facebook is off-limits! So, yes, she will probably be talking to the kids on there about going.

D will go. She will also be visiting Franklin & Marshall. Anyone have a view on Dickinson vs. Franklin & Marshall?

On the surface F+M and Dickinson are very similar, but visiting their campuses, I've found that they just "feel" different.

Objectively, F+M has a better premed program, and Dickinson is better for languages, study abroad and anything "global."

Personally, I love Dickinson!

Thanks Snowy. I think D is leaning toward Dickinson as between those two as well. F & M also seems like a more isolated campus, which might be hard on a NYC girl.

Snowy89, any recommendations on classes and freshman seminars? Do many kids do that freshman thing (can't remember offhand what the name was) where they choose a freshman seminar that is like a learning community--it's linked to another seminar and the groups are housed together. did you or any of your friends choose that option?

About Facebook 2012, my daughter tried to log-in, but it said she needed a Dickinson email address. Perhaps she did something wrong. Can you elaborate. How did you get a Dickinson email address? I know she would love to get on and meet her fellow freshman.

Donna G., I think the name of the facebook group is: "Dickinson Class of 2012 (is amazing)". My daughter definitely doesn't have a Dickinson email address because she hasn't even sent in a deposit yet (still choosing between it and one other school). Try having her search for that group and signing in. If that doesn't work, I'll ask my D how she joined.

My D is deciding between four schools (well, I think it is three now- I believe Lewis and Clark has lost this battle) and Dickinson is one of them. We are hauling ourselves out to PA to see it next week for open house along with another PA school (Bryn Mawr). I have a feeling the two schools are very different and will most interested to see which she likes better! We are actually arriving on Thursday night so she can take a couple classes on Friday morning and then the open house thing Saturday.

Peabodie-I have HEARD of the learning communities but do not know that much about them. I am just an admitted student, so I haven't started my freshman year there yet!
