can i go on you tube and watch anime???

will i use up my 5gb fast??

DC++ has A LOT of the more popular anime. It seriously has the most obscurestuff--right now it has a total of 21.78 TB of media (1TB=1024 GB). You can use up the bandwidth pretty quickly with youtube, but if you're watching tv shows/ other recurring programs, you can probably find it on DC++.

You would be suprised how little tv u will watch in college. The only shows I watch every week r Real World and Lincoln Heights just becuase my friends watch em. It's hard to keep up with any tv show, especially if u live in a quad. The opportunity cost to watch a tv show at night is just a lot more. I'd rather hang w/ friends or do something else fun.

Does Cornell have substance free housing?

eventer- you're not supposed to drink in any of the dorms on campus. i'm not sure if we have substance free housing but you will never come across someone drinking or smoking up in the hall way or something.

This might be somewhat of a strange question, but is there bubble tea up in Cornell? It's an asian tapioca drink that people don't seem to know about (unless you're from an asian-filled city like where I'm from XD). If there isn't any bubble at Cornell, I'm going to die...(well not really)
And if there is bubble tea, is it good and relatively inexpensive?

If you don't know what it looks like, just google it and you'll find out pretty quickly =D

Bubble tea!!! According to the Dear Uncle Ezra website, bubble tea is popular at Cornell.

http://ezra.cornell.edu/

Type in "bubble tea" in search, and you'll get the scoop on it.

Is there any sort of tension between the richer and poorer students at Cornell? (Especially w.r.t. financial aid)
Similarly, any sort of racial or ethnic tension(s)?

Is Cornell Math good?

Are the dining options as good as the brochure says? Also, do the campus or town itself have any good Indian and Italian restaurants?

There's really bad bubble tea served on campus at Appel and at Noyes (North and West campus, respectively). There's also a pretty good place (The Old Teahouse) in Collegetown on Dryden Rd. Prices are about the same as anywhere else.

Mr_crouton:
1. I haven't encountered any.
2. I can't compare it with other schools' Math departments since I don't have experience but I really think our Math department is very good, based on the 4 courses I've taken and the experiences I've heard from my Math major friends/
3. Dining halls are very good, but they do get old (though not as quickly as other schools). There are 2-3 Italian places in Collegetown and one Indian; you can also find Italian food on campus almost everywhere. If you go to the Commons/downtown you'll find a lot more restaurants.

Yes, you can find Bubble Tea anywhere. As a freshman it'll be a (maximum) 5 minute walk away.

mr_crouton:
1) (an emphatic) no
2) yes
3) yes and yes

Excellent. Thanks for the quick responses!

One last question (on financial aid again): my financial aid package is at the moment simply too low for me to attend. Right now the dollar amount they expect is not even plausible; it's something like twice what we can afford. Do you know if Cornell will be open to negotiation? :/

if you want to take calculus over again, can you give them ur ap score so you don thave to take the placement exam and then take it over again anyway?

AnbuItachi, yes you can take calculus over again.
Mr_crouton, its not unheard of, but I really don't know what they'll do in your particular situation. It doesn't hurt to ask the financial aid office...

mr_crouton, the best advice I can offer is: don't be meek at all (not that I'm assuming you would, but don't call them up and say, "my offer is too low, is there any way you can raise it?") Call them up and say, "I'm doing great in school and I was looking forward to really getting involved at Cornell. But since you didn't give me any money, I'm going someplace else unless something changes now." They may still not do anything but making an aggressive phone call is your best bet.

AnbuItachi, you don't "have" to take a placement exam to take a certain math class. Even professors whose math classes have prerequisites aren't going to check that you've fulfilled them. But 111 (Calc 1) has no prerequisities. Don't worry about a placement exam; just sign up.

Thanks, lianri. I probably would have been too meek (it's kind of a defeating feeling, after all) so I'll be sure to be more straightforward.

Don't be insulting tho. Be straight forward but nice. Who want's an arse at their campus? lol. GL!

I just tried bubble tea in Boston a couple weeks ago! Strawberry flavored...mmmmmm! (altho I couldn't eat all the balls. They are kinda strange lol)

Do premed in HE have to take Multi and Diff. Cause im taking them right now and theres no way i can stay awake in those classes.

How big is skiing/snowboarding? And do most people who ski and snowboard use cars to get up to the mountains, or are there busses or something?

p.s. first reply gets the honor of 100th post.
