Accepted to La Sorbonne in Paris!

I have nothing to wait for?

it roughly means "all I have to do is wait"

I actually think it'd be more colloquial if I had written "je n'ai plus qu'

ohh...is that idiomatic? Hah, obviously my french isn't that good...I thought it meant "I can't wait" or "I can only wait" but then you would use pouvoir...

Actually, "I can only wait" wouldn't be a terrible equivalent, either.

Well you actually wouldn't use pouvoir to say "I can't wait." If you had said "je ne peux pas attendre" it essentially means you PHYSICALLY cannot wait....on dirait plut

Yeah, that makes sense!

"All I have left to do is wait" or "I should just wait."

le corbeau -- Je suis dans une ecole francais a San Francisco. Et toi, tu prends le Bac cette annee aussi?

haha---non je vais pas passer mon bac...je suis qu'un ado am

It's all a bit confusing, but... Je suis am

T'es a la FAIS, JBPH? Bonne chance pour ton bac ("merde"!)

In your place, I would go to the Sorbonne at least one or two years. If it doesn't work out, you can transfer and finish in 3 yrs at a US college. Given that NYU's tuition is $30K and other expenses are just as bad as in Paris, you've got little to lose. Perhaps there is a shorter program (like a BAC+2) at the Sorbonne you can do, if so that would allow you to limit your commitment.

As well, the French approach to philosophy is more rigorous, not just because it's continental. It's a cultural thing. The level of discourse and writing is going to be higher than at NYU, which is good but not tops.

One other alternative is the American Univ in Paris.

The academics at AUP are reportedly "pas terrible"

and il parait que the student body isnt the most interesting or intelligent group of people in the world...a good majority are wealthy and attend AUP to tell people they go to school in Paris...

Hey Lecorbeau, I found you through a UCSD myspace group because I was trying to figure out what types of people are going there. I'm also accepted to UC San Diego. Randomly stumbled on this thread, and thought, "Hey, isn't that the kid who was going to La Sorbonne?" and it was. So there's my story. I've got to tell you, Paris would be one heck of a place to go to college, regardless of the prestige of the university. (I'm not just saying that; I've been there.) But then, if every cultured intellectual such as yourself goes to France, and not San Diego, that leaves me with the Southern California, Hollister-wearing surfer and bro crowd. God help me then.

What else do you know about AUP?

AUP is a sort of NYU-light located in Paris. The business school is not that bad and the student body is fairly international. My older sister went there (she didn't get a mention on her bac...) It's a bit similar to schools like USanFran or American U.

Hello, since I am also passing the french bac, I think I can tell you what the french view their educational system.
Maybe I should write in french if you guys can read la Langue de Moli

Does AUP have a grad business school?

On their website I saw they sent people to work at Goldman Sachs, is that just because people there tend to be well plugged in?

yt660

Are you suggesting that he go to Science-po?

1st Of all its very hard to get into and second how can you get in as an american student?

I know people who have had mention B and TB in S and ES and didn't get into science-po. I think they have a specific entrance exam.

I hope to do a semester abroad there or at LSE (if i'm good enough of course, lol).

I still think a semester abroad at Sorbonne or Science-po would be best for lecorbeau.

How many French speakers are on CC??

Il semble y en avoir des tonnes....j'en reviens pas...

For LSE, you need at least Mention Bien

At undergraduate level, LSE accepted me for reading a Bsc for Economincs if I have mention Tr

World wide name recognition? I've never heard of it.

I was saying LSE or Science-Po Study abroad, I didn't even apply to them.

yt660 : What center are you in?

and good luck with your conditions its really tough...
