I’m from Brazil and haven’t got anything either… :/

Last week, I got an acceptance package (from another school, of course) on Monday, that had been sent in the Friday before. So does it mean that the people who didn’t receive the mail yet were rejected? I mean, why would they spend money on rejected people sending priority mailed rejection letters?

Jayhawk, same here. We’re in NorCal, and D has decided against Bates because it’s too cold. (Californians…) We need to revisit Oxy and Pitzer. Would love to hear from others about comparative advantages/disadvantages. One thing I see is that Oxy’s graduation rate is much higher than Pitzer’s.

I got into Bates and Oxy too! Whitman and UCLA are also up for consideration. I like Bates and Whitman a lot because there seem to be a lot of outdoor opportunities and solid science programs at both schools. It would be great to hear some advice/pros-cons!

Jayhawk, my D is just finishing her 1st year at Oxy. We toured Bates, and she liked it, but decided not to apply because she wanted to be somewhere warm, and Bates also seems very isolated. She wanted to be near a big city, but on a pretty campus. (We are from NJ, but near NYC, and she was used to going into the city.) She was waitlisted at Pitzer and accepted to Oxy, but decided she liked Oxy better anyway. Again, she wanted to be near a city, and near the beaches, and Oxy fits that description better than Pitzer. Pitzer does have the advantage of being part of the larger group of colleges, so there are far more students nearby. She is finding Oxy small, and says she already knows everyone there, but on the plus side, she has made good friends. We did end up leasing her a car, because she began to feel frustrated that she could not get off campus and explore as much as she wanted. (Being from our area, we are spoiled by the mass transit opportunities.) She is from a rigorous high school, but is still finding the workload to be challenging (though not overwhelming). Good luck deciding!

BefuddledParent - thanks for the great feedback. My D ruled Bates out over the weekend. We will fly out a couple of times to visit Oxy and Pitzer separately over the next three weeks. They both seem to be great schools - each providing a unique experience. Thanks

Well, although I was accepted at Oxy, I’m going to decline. I didn’t receive a penny of merit aid and although my family doesn’t qualify for financial need, they also can’t afford 58K/yr. We politely appealed to financial aid and their response wasn’t all that friendly, basically telling us pay up or go elsewhere. Oxy was a reach for me so although I was accepted there (probably for running, legacy and geographic location) the school is not that interested in having me attend there…
