International student
Applied EA to GT, got deferred and now waitlisted…
Should I keep on waiting, or just go ahead with Purdue…
Reason for my wondering is since I am an international I need to apply for student visa, and with GT answering me in the month of May, I think (don’t know) that I have a short period of time for the visa process.
Also, that means I have to pay my deposit in Purdue just in case GT does not offer me a spot…
For certain move ahead with Purdue. If you get into GT later, you may be able to change your mind, but I am not familiar with visas and how that works so look into that now. . If you feel bad about waiting, you do not have to get onto the GT waitlist by the way. You can tell GT that you are not interested in their wait list. But think about that carefully.
Another option you have: Go to Purdue for one year and reevaluate how you feel about the school, based on your first semester experience. If Purdue does not meet your educational needs, you can always try to transfer to GT later as well. Purdue is slightly less expensive than GT for OOS.
They are both well ranked programs in most fields. Purdue is a little harder to fly to, is one disadvantage for an international student, but I suspect you are aware of that. You can fly to Chicago or Indianapolis and take a bus.
Georgia Tech has slightly stronger students, but you can get a good education at Purdue, especially if you plan to study any engineering field or CS.
If you REALLY want Tech and get in off waitlist (I was waitlisted too), I would say go there. The deposit at Purdue is only $400, which seems like a lot but in the long run for getting the education you really want forfeiting $400 isnt really that big a deal unless youre really tight on cash.
