i also have twins considering Gonzaga and LMU and University of Redlands. where is your other twin going?

My other twin daughter will attend Syracuse University and my eldest daughter is a current sophomore at Boston College. Can’t believe 3 colleges in 3 different states. It also was hard for my twins to let go of SCU, but they felt it was too close to home and the quarter system was unappealing to them. Gonzaga twin wanted LMU, but sadly didn’t get in. Now the fun of purchasing winter gear!

I will be attending. Didn’t get enough money at USC or USD, my two top choices, and Gonzaga’s money offer was too much to turn down. Not the happiest about the decision, but I’m excited for college either way. I really liked the feel of the campus coming from Seattle. Interested in studying business.

Everyone I know who attended Gonzaga has loved it. SuppDawg, in the end you will be glad with your decision!

Frisco mom, did your gonzaga twin go to Gel weekend? both my twins did and had a great time, but really liked the students already there more than the accepted students. they thought the vibe of accepted girls was kind of standoffish or maybe snobbish. so one of my twins is hesitating about gonzaga now. the other will probably attend LMU with hardly any financial aid, but we have a way worse vibe from LMU girls…do you know if they are perceived to be or are more of the fashion obsessed rich girl types? idk how LMU is seen in california. any info would really help as we have to decide in a few days!! ahhhh

also anyone know about the academic reputation of university of redlands. or anything about the students, or if a degree from redlands will help in the job hunt. any info will help because my twins are on infornation OVERLOAD and are stuck in decision making!

Frisco, I’m sure I will love it, I’m just disappointed because it ranked pretty low on my list (mostly because of location - Spokane is nothing like Cali). I’m glad there’s a big sports culture and think I can fit in, but I’m still having trouble getting some other schools off my mind right now. That outlook will certainly change as fall comes closer, though.

Supp Dawg, did you get in to USC? if you did, that is pretty amazing. we know many people who didn’t that were really really qualified and even had siblings already at USC. i have twins and we’ve visited USD multiple times, and even though the school is beautiful, they had definite reasons neither of them would want to go there. Did you go to Gonzaga’s Gel weekend? Gonzaga’s community spirit seems like the best of any college we’ve visited and we’ve been to like 13! my one twin is either going to gonzaga or university of redlands. she’s just not sure of the gonzaga weather (freezing) and the snobby feel of alot of the incoming girls from private Catholic high schools. are you from a public school?

takes2muchtime, this is hysterical, but yes we attended GEL weekend and I swear I saw your twin girls. They are identical correct? My daughters say they met a set of nice twins. How ironic would that be! I will be honest with you about LMU. Excellent school, beautiful campus, etc. . but yes the girls tend to be fashionistas, and wealthy; it was quite obvious to me as a mom. I visited 2 years ago with my eldest who decided she didn’t fit the “beautiful mold” and when my twins visited they had the same vibe. So funny that your girls said the same thing about the accepted students being standoffish at Gonzaga. I reminded my daughters that everyone accepted were probably nervous and new to the system. I still can’t believe one will be in Syracuse.

SuppDawg, the sports at Gonzaga are huge, Washington people are so friendly and kind; it was so refreshing to me as living in San Francisco is the ultimate in California snobbery. Ha!

Frisco mom, they’re not identical but look alike. i wonder if i met you! haha. i went to the president’s speech and the student panel and loved the hilarious head of student life. did you have concerns about registration and housing that the students talked about. it sounds like they make your freshman schedule and then send it to you!

one twin is deciding between gonzaga and university of redlands, and the other LMU (got into film school for production) and university of redlands. being from Cali have you heard ANYTHING about redlands? academic rep, kids there etc. we don’t know if it would be good to have a diploma from there or not. we don’t know how the school is perceived because we just found out about it.

i can’t use my girls names on here haha, but one twin was staying in Alliance for Gel Weekend and was having fun dancing at the campfire and the other had a really great girl as her host too. where your girls staying? i’ll ask mine if they met some twins, or maybe they didn’t know they were. i have lots of info on gonzaga if you need any!

oh, and one more thing. i’m really hesitant to send one to LMU, but she doesnt know if she can pass up the film opportunity. do you know any girls that have gone there or know of people that still find friendly, normal, fun girls to hang out with?
THANKs so much!

Takes2muchtime, I have seriously researched University of Redlands. Everyone I’ve talked to has had positive things to say. Our tour was lovely and admissions has been outstanding in answering questions. I knew practically nothing about it, but between exploring the website and talking to admissions people I have confidence that it would be a good school.

thanks! is your son/daughter thinking of going to redlands or somewhere else? did you go to the preview day in april? my girls really liked the other students and feel for the school, it’s just we don’t really “know” much about the school besides their website and our visit.

@takes2muchtime, I am from a public school and yes, I got into USC. It kind of surprised me as it was one of my reaches, but I didn’t get a scholarship and didn’t get nearly enough aid to allow me to attend. I loved my visit to USD, but money was definitely an issue there as well. Gonzaga’s combination of scholarships/grants offered to me make it cheaper than UW. I didn’t go to GEL weekend but I know at least 10 people from my public high school that are already zags and they all love it. None of them are “snobby” by any measure. Compared to a school like USD, Gonzaga is incredibly down-to-earth and with 97% of students receiving financial aid (compared to 70% at USD) there certainly is not a large population of extremely rich kids. I went to an admitted students event in Seattle and it’s true that the majority of the kids I met were from private schools. But they seemed normal and not “snobby” at all to me.

Best of luck with your daughter’s decision!

takes2muchtime, I loved the President’s Speech too and wasn’t the Hawaiian freshman on the panel hilarious? I got a great vibe and am thrilled that one twin is attending. I honestly have not heard of the University of Redlands, but it certainly ranks well and I wouldn’t worry if your twins decide to go there. Getting into the film school is huge at LMU and definitely don’t let the “rich fashionista” types be a reason for not going there. A beautiful and safe campus and LAX airport is 10 minutes away. I was disappointed one twin didn’t get in as I would have loved the excuse to go to LA and visit. Love it there!
Unfortunately my twins stayed in my hotel room with me as we had an 8 AM flight back to SF on Sunday morning so we didn’t do the “sleepover” for the GEL weekend. They had to be back for an afternoon school function. They are not identical either, but one is 5’5" and the other 5’9". They look like sisters, but not like twins! And yes, the registration aspect of Gonzaga did make me wonder what that was all about. Do you think your twins will go their separate ways? I’m still in a state of shock that mine split up.

Suppdawg, thanks too for the info on Gonzaga. Glad to hear snobbery is pretty much non-existent at Gonzaga. Music to a mother’s ears!
