Accessing a private message says it's “private or doesn’t exist.”

Continuing the discussion from Forum rules update (March, 2021):

Welcome back, @gandalf78! Normally that page is shown when the URL is not valid or the message has been deleted. If you’ve bookmarked messages from the previous platform, the URL likely won’t work. But you should be able to find your messages using at College Confidential Forums - Admissions Discussions and Threads. You can also get there by selecting your avatar in the top bar:

(Ignore the red 3.)

Unfortunately the way messages were imported means they all have similar titles:

(Your numbers will vary.)

But you can use search to find old messages:

If you continue to have problems finding your messages, let me know and I’ll see if I can help out.

Thanks so much for the help! The link was able to take me where I needed to go.

What is the current procedure/protocol for sending private messages to posters? I wanted to PM a poster on a forum about something that was not related to the forum topic; when I clicked on the poster’s icon – the way that I sent a PM in the good old days – I received a message that stated that the content was private.

Thanks for any help that you can give!

Users can opt to make their profile private.

I don’t know of this works for users with private profiles (since private profiles are not private to me), but another way is to reply to a comment and when they dialogue box opens, hit the arrow to the left of the username and select new message

So I should just post on the public forum? I mean, I have no problem doing that, I just didn’t want to be a distraction.

Thank you for the prompt reply!

See above post. If that’s does not work, post a response asking user to PM you

I’ll give it a try. Thanks again!
